Hey Breezers
This is my first post after reading, watching and learning from you guys for over a year- Thanks
My first board was an NSP 11', I recently bought a C4 9'6 subvector- loving it as I have mostly been SUPing my local waves around South Gippsland Victoria.
Now I am thinking of getting myself a race/open water board and exploring the waters around Corner Inlet, Wilson's prom and Waratah Bay (downwinding/fitness paddling).
Does anyone have any experience of SUPing/downwinding in these areas?
Should I be looking for a 12'6 or a 14' board? (I am 6' & about 80Kg)
I usually go out on my own- don't see many other SUPs down here!
Any advice would be appreciated.
Peter.

If just for ocean paddling and DW stuff i would go for 14ft, best thing to do is look up a local shop thats in to the racing or DW paddling and see what they are all using. Heaps of boards out there but some will do what you want to do better than others.

Hi Dynymor,

The Port Phillip Cup is on in Melb at Stkilda this weekend and there will be plenty of boards there from all the different brands. Most people wouldnt mind if you wanted to jump on and have a paddle. Might save you some time hunting around.

12 and 14 are not the only options, for open ocean down your way also see if you can try out a 17 or a least something with a rudder or a rudder and fixed fin option.

In open ocean a rudder is a major advantage unless you love paddling on the one side all the time in cross wind.

This is a SIC 14 with rudder that can be locked out for fixed fin races so you get the best of both worlds.

Demo boards until you get an idea of what you want.

For flat water and cruising a 12'6" is great.. but for open ocean and downwinders a 14' board is a much better choice..

Try and make it up to St Kilda this saturday morning for the Port Phillip Cup and check out some boards.

OG SUP- love the look of the SIC 14
Does anyone have any DW experience on Corner Inlet or local area? Is it any good?

Dynymor,

We are going to be investing a few weekends at Corner Inlet and the Prom over the next couple months.

Maybe we should catch up

Hi Phill
Happy to catch up and organize a paddle. If your going to be at the event tomorrow I'll look out for you, failing that drop me a line on here.
Cheers
Peter
