I have windsurfed and surfed Hookipa that size, how you could SUP it is beyond me I would be washed in over the rocks. Much as I hate to say it he is an impressive human being.

The paddle does seem to have more of a bend in it then a common paddle. Does anyone know the reasoning behind this or is it a personal thing?

Yes, you are correct. The reason the paddle has more of a bend in it is that it is less straight than paddles with less of a bend in them.

I'm really sorry about this....I've been drinking....

I thought the same thing ! he for sure faded the kite , but when your stand up surfing you will pretty much fade anything other than a surfboard or sup i guess

Laird uses Quick Blade paddles (I think it's a part of his Surftech sponsorship) after spending years with Kialoa paddles and helping them develop their SUP paddles.

I think Quick Blades are about 14 deg blade offset..Most others are about 12 deg..or something like that..It also has a huge surface area compared to most others..(21" x 9" and others are about 16" x 8 1/2").

I think it lets him get serious grunt at the power part of the stroke without lifting water..The down side would be less power at the start of the stroke...Just guessin'..
