Similar to shireSUp, you can escape the world on the water. No phone calls, no work, no one nagging, not even traffic noise.

Its nice to just switch off, focus on the water and get a few hours too yourself. Flat water paddling or surfing.

Agree but …. Its funny what makes one person stoked, is what usually ruins someone else day.
I find there is nothing more arrogant that guys on their race boards sitting fifty meters further out thinking they are “away from the crowds”, claiming all the set waves, while straight lining on the shoulder looking like Duke Kahanamoku and collapsing the sections for those that have taken their turn and worked hard in the crowd to earn a wave. They are race boards .. go and race them … or at least share the sets around

Getting my daughter into SUPing. We partook of the Starboard demo arvo at Narrabeen Lagoon (thanks Ian) and had fun. Tried 4 different boards.
Its great to do stuff with your kids, especially something you love.

Paddling into big reef waves that prone guys can't
Getting tons of speed on tiny waves
Downwinding with my mates in 30 knots that feels like you are surfing for 10 km
Paddling with my family
Surfing with my youngest

Since I'm new to this, but have kayaked for some time, I was stoked to be standing up on the water - completely different perspective of your environment.

Oh, and catching that first (small) wave in Byron bay

Darren

What gets me stoked is when I slowly and ever so gently peel the cover down to reveal my beautiful deliciously exquisit little girl lying there naked on the ground before me begging me to use her in order to satisfy my insasiable desire.

Surfing/Sup gives you back some moments of sanity when the rest of the world tries to constantly steal them!! I enjoy those moments!

I just love the feeling after a good hour flat water paddle when you throw the Sup on the roof racks and hit play to the sounds of Pink Floyd. The feeling like you have earnt those beers waiting in the spare fridge at home. No mobile phones and 3 kids fighting is a bonus. Peace with the world.
Did I mention my PSH 10'10 Hull Paddler I am picking up next week (my 1st Sup for the surf and my next surf will be my 1st since G-Land circa 95.) Just a touch excited.
