New board, or not...
Tints or clear...
2nd handy epoxy or a new McT with custom tints...
Tracker or Cruiser
Bali or Hawaii
KTM or Honda
Bells or Winki
Chrispy or Asea (for Prez!)

What are your Cross Roads?

I can answer all of those for you.

New board
Always the brightest tint you can get.
McT but never epoxy.
Tracker
Hawaii (for the snow)
Honda
Bells
I think we should still be a Monarchy. So elect a queen.

Simondo it would seem that you have a few decisions ahead....I love the street signage.....if I could swap something it would be Indo for Bali so I could include North Sumtrata....H would be great as well but I do like uncrowded perfection when I am away ...The KTM would be great but your service costs could potentially spoil the enjoyment....some would think there is not even a question between a second hand epoxy or a brand new beast with tints.....but I would firmly disagree....why not go a custom epoxy with as funky design as you can imagine...and from a bloke who resides not far from you?? And I think he could make you a board with lots of volume but shapped more like a shortboard that would help you to dominate out at Winkis (Bells is the chubby little sister I reckon ).

Yep its time you got yourself a JD!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, I was only being "figurative" up there with my first post!

For me;
My mind is already made up;
Spend more time on Tracker influenced boards
KTM...

Ted, my brother has 2 Josh Dowlings. They aren't my kettle of fish. Plus they take about 3+ months to get hold of. He's a "not for profit" kind of guy!

Bells & Winki...
You missed the mark slightly Ted. From March through to early December, we can commonly get 2-3m swells, and at Low Tide and Mid Tide, Bells is a magical wave. It's shifty, peaky, fast, bomb sets, inside runners, wide ones, etc... It is more testing than Winki. But head high waves, at Mid to High Tide, Winki will usually be a better wave than Bells.

Simondo I am happy to accept your version of the Bells / Winki issue....I have been there twice....the second time I spent 5 lovely days in Torquay. The surf pumped. I had 4 or 5 amazing surfs at Winki and a few at Bells. Based on my experiences that week Winki was a few superior wave. Could have been any number of reasons....I am looking forward to my next mission into your neck of the woods and perhaps Bells will turn it on for me

Sadly, I can't find a longboard on Josh's site... But there are plenty of nice boards.

Pup - KTM, not yet. Just flat out with work and family at the moment. Plus most of the bikes are extreme North & East sides of Melbourne, which is 2+hours away from me.

Last week JD make an appearance in the short board room....there is also a great thread about his boards on the realsurf forums that has loads of info in it and where he contributes. Some good stuff in it - have been reading it for a few yrs now. I will get one of his boards one day - I was going to order one a few months back but decided that I might have a crack at making a compsand board myself so that is why I did not place the order. I saw one a few weeks back at the beach - your can recognise one immediately from across the car park!! It was in really good nick - it had been sent back for a few repairs but it was almost 4 yrs old!! I wish I had a camera with me to take a few shots. Next time I see it I will. Its very impressive construction. At $1k a board its a lot - but given its conditions after 4 yrs they are dam good value I recond - although cheap compared to a McT tinted custom

Ted, can you attach the link to Josh in the Shorty forum... save me fishing through.

Tux, you are spot on about Bells & Winki, and you are too Ted. Ted, you probably missed out on a 2.5-3.5m swell. That's when Bells can be "on like Donkey Kong". Winki is nearly always better, but when Bells in "on" it is absolute magic!! Plus, a really good Bells wave will stick with you forever! More going on, more challenging... But how good is Winki... Set yourself up for speed... happy days!!
