Well the devil wind as Mac likes to call it has ruined the surf component of my holiday but fear not I have still had a great time. Infact I have spent the last 2 days doing work as the wind has been so bad! But I have more than made up for it with a couple of benders for good measure....good town for a nice feed and a beverage or 3
Today I took myself off to the Arts area for a cruise. I checked out MC Surf - the guy who is good mates with George Greenough....he makes some insane boards! He even has a lovely old original spoon from GG all those year ago. If you happen to be in the area well worth a stop for a look. There are some classic old school pics on the wall as well. I then headed over the road to the big Maddog shop - only because the fiancé was buying some coffee beans and was busy chatting.....I had a quick look around the store and then happened to glance up into the rafters and just about fell over.....there in the rafters over hanging my head was the biggest display of old boards I have ever seen!!! Its heaven. So many old classic Mals with big cedar and redwood stringers etc, so many different styles, shapes, fins etc the place is just incredible. I am not sure how many boards are up in the rafters but I would think at least 50 if not a lot more.
Do yourself a favour and if you get the chance stop in and admire them. They are unreal. I wish I could have got up there and touched a few of them. Sadly I did not have my camera with me but I might go back tom and see if I can take a few shots to share with ya - especially if this wind stays up !
I almost brought one of these today from MC today - STUBBIE Greenough Concave Chine Hull. Amazing boards in the flesh. You can ride it as a single or any other combo with a quad setup as well - so no shortage of fin options. Looks like it would be a lot of fun. Would have to get rid of the SP to get it. Will sleep on it tonight and head back in the morning for a final look before deciding. The fiancé has told me that I can have it if I sell one of my 666's - seems like a great idea to me

Thanks Doggie - was heaps of fun building it. Already started the plans for the next one. Learnt lots of lessons along the way - will definitely be doing things a little differently next time. Here is the view from the table at the moment - looking out to Julian Rocks. Its horrible! I have just been sitting here hiding from the wind doing work - great way to spend your holiday - oh well hard to complain as its a top spot.
Ted coastalwatch is saying the wind will turn S/E tonight so The Pass maybe OK in the morning I will be there if its on about 9am ish NSW have you got boards with you
Cheers Boof
The board looks good Ted - very similar ouline to Paul Hutchinsons "Bear" Fat Assed Wombat. (one of two boards Ive always wanted and never got)
Yeah sell the Stand up for the new girl for sure Ted , do it mate .... Make the most of the trip anyway mate , it's God's country I reckon
At cheeky monkeys for the t-shirt comp - just came for a beer n was shocked - just making sure everything is ok then I will make my way home
Ted, I was at Byron on the way south on Tuesday. Had I realized you were there, I would have hooked up.
Missed MC, as I just drove through, got a drink and stopped at Arrawarra for a surf yesterday. Home now, and back to reality.....
MR
Thanks fellas - some good suggestions there......it's blowing 20 knots from the north again.....perfect for LL!!
Ted theres a shoe shop across from Maddog the same block the coffee was brought I would guess , It's called Louise lanes keep the captain out of there , we got the hole bloody range over here , & she goes on about me with surf boards
Head up to Bangalow Pub for a feed & a beer. Better feed than any of the pubs in town IMHO & great balcony to sit & have a beer - out of the dirty northeries!!
The Better Half will love having a wander through town.
Head south out of town & hang a right at the Golf Course / footy oval - takes about 10 minutes from there
