I was first up this morning and was happy with the way I surfed but didnt score well enough to get through. Nice head high waves early and I tended to forget about point scoring and just enjoy the surf - got some really nice waves though and really happy with the board. Tomayama surfed well in difficult conditions and got smacked in a coupla lovely close-outs.
Got a sneaky little sup in at Arra' late morning b4 having lunch with lfish in Woopi.
Very satisfying day thus far and will be capped of nicely if I win the Mctavish at tonights competitors draw.

good news, Tom bettered last years effort by 2 places, he scored 3rd in his division.

Lfish shot home early this morning and BB went around midday.

I only watched the women's final because watching ladies on longboards is a very enjoyable experience for some unknown reason. [}:)]

Even though one of them was old enough to be my nanna.

I made sure I didn't make the same mistake as yesterday in thinking that I was going to get an arvo wave. I went in at Arra point and stayed in for over 3 hours and used 2 different boards. The only thing that got me out of the water was the fact that I could no longer stand up because I was just too physically exhausted.

Last wave of the day I wasn't even expecting and it was the best of the lot. I was on my nose rider and just trying my best to get back in without too much effort. An inside reform came up behind me and I though "okay, free ride home", it was looking pretty decent so I decided to stand up. Bugger me, the thing stated to peel off really smooth so I ran up to the snoze and stayed there for an eternity.

It must have been good because another guy who was trying to go back in at the same time gave me a big hoot and a thumbs up.

I'll check out Arra tomorrow morning, if it's not working I'll just pack my crap and head home.

All done and dusted for another year. Surf was average but still got a coupla nice sessions in over the weekend. Great to catch up with Lfish and Obct again - terrific guys and lotsa fun to hang with. Would also like to extend a huge thanks to Surf fx for allowing me to take the 9.6 Nsp for the trip - great board, had a blast on it. Very big ups to the Woolgoolga Longboard club for yet another great comp' and for making us feel very welcome.
Only 12mths to go ......

I'm back in Sydney now, Arra point was just unsurfable this morning so I rush home and managed a few waves at my local.

I had a very relaxing time, I just wished I would have camped under a nice shady tree so I could get some rest during the day.

About the only disappointment for me is that I've decided to take a vow of celibacy for the rest of my life

After paddling behind one particular chick who was entered in the Ladies event (not the winner, although she was also a hotty) , no other ass will ever match it for shear bonner inducing pleasure.

6.5 hours but I really think it's best to do it in no less than 7.5 and have a real good stretch every few hours.

I was getting a bit tired at about Taree so I found a shady rest stop and has a bit of lay down in the back on top of all the stowed camping gear and although I didn't manage to drop off. It did me the world of good and I just went straight through to Sydney.

The waves at Arra point were outstanding, but only for me because I thrive in really crap waves that everyone else will just say "no way am I going out in that crap".

Mostly it's to do with the fact that the 10'6 munoz will catch just about anything so this time I forced myself to get on the 9'6 In the Pink and I must have got a bit paddle fit of late because I found that I was now picking up waves a lot better on it.

It's just that the long ride at Arra means that if you're a bit slow like I am, you have time set yourself up for a good nose ride or race out in front and do a few nice cutbacks into the critical section and still have plenty of wave to ride back out of them again.

Of course, the longer the ride, the longer the paddle, but this year I didn't even mind that so much.

I forgot to mention the most surreal experience of the whole trip.

Me and Lfish were just sitting on the veranda of the woopi surf club on either Thursday arvo or Friday morning when from behind the headland, no more than about 400 meters out and probably under 100 meters altitude, 4 x F18 fighter jets just appeared out of nowhere.

The were nose to tail and heading north just hugging the coast, and the weird part was that they were almost silent until they passed us and even then they were still reasonably quiet.

Lfish and I just looked at each other with a "WTF was that" look on our faces.

Pretty spectacular.
