I finally picked up the new toy last night and took it for its first spin early this morning. Well the surf was crap (as it has been the last month or so) but I was determined to get wet today - something about having that new toy!!! It was 1ft with a few bigger ones but clean and glassy. I started off well (or so I thought) but soon learnt that I needed to be a long way back to turn her off the bottom without catching a rail. Although its a big thick board (3 1/8) the rails are thin - he has hacked a load off the shoulder of the rail - and you can really put it on rail. Stoked. I found once you moved forward it really picked up in pace - I was really surprised by its speed in such crap conditions. I even managed to spend a little time on the nose. Even more stoked. She paddles like a dream and catches anything that moves.
Anyway its my first surf on a board like this ever - and this mornings session has taught me that I have a lot to learn but that its going to be a lot of fun learning its finner points. Very happy with the purchase so far. Given that I normally ride a 5'10" its a whole new different world!!!!!!!
Many thanks to your advice everyone re helping me with the purchase decision. Much appreciated.
I have a question re the leg-rope - and please do not laugh. It has a hole from the top of the board down into the fin box. I have never used a set up like that before. I tied a large knot in some rope and just pushed it through from the bottom. Is this how you normally do it? It leaves a bit hanging out the bottom - I am not sure if this is the best way to go about it. Any ideas / knowledge you would like to share ?
Here are a few snaps as promised.
From above she has a lovely outline.....not a lot of curve in her but a nice coat of green
She is prety chunky at 3 1/8
But has loads of rocker - although this not the best shot
The front end has a massive scoop out of her.
It has a big asse fin on it!
Made by Waxa - you can see the only blemmish on the whole board.
And she seems to be enjoying her new new home in the garage. She is not the biggest in the shed but not far off! She will soon have herself a cover after BB sold me one of his old ones.
Whilst taking the shots I saw that the garden needed some attention - here is the first cucumber of the season - looks like a tomatoe and cucumber salad for lunch and some beans for dinner. The rain over night has split a few of the tomatoes but its no drama. I dug up a few potatoes last night so hopefully today it will only be food from the garden plus some lamb on the bbq!!!!
Tie a loop and push it through the hole from underneath so the loop hangs out the top and the knot lies inside the finbox. You might have to push the loop through with a fine phillips head screwdriver. You can then attach the leggie through the loop. She's a full blown log alright sh#t loads of nose concave and that flipped tail looks good too.
You' ll have a ball on that on the small days.
I like the vegies too. I grow chillies and some pretty deadly ones at that.
Its a shame your new toy is hanging around the wrong crowd already
Lovely looking board mate well done
Oh that is such a loverly loverly log.
Looks to have a classic pig outline.
BTW, that's a really nice crop of vegies, I'd love to be able to do that but the sad truth is, I hate gardening.
Although only today I potted out some chili seedlings that I had been growing in a little hot house.
Back in about April, my mate up at woopi had me try these chilies a friend of his grows.
They must have been the sweetest chilies I've ever tasted, hardly hot at all, so I dried out some seeds and planted them.
It's a million to one shot that they'll grow, but if they do, I'll let you know just in case you want a few plants if ever I'm passing through.
