Off to Lombok next week anyone know much about this spot? Fly to Bali then across to Lombok for a week for some decent waves. Love to take the mal but dont like the chances of it making it in one piece. Decided to take a 7'6 and a 6'6, hopefully I wont get too much grief from Garuda.
I have not flown Garuda for a few years but never had any problems so you should be fine.
have not been to Lombok so please post some photos of the island if you would be so kind
Have a great trip
Hi Mate
I was there in 92 , not much there but good surf.
Bit of a drive from the capital Mataram 2hrs I think.
We stayed at Kuta on the south coast, hotels there now bamboo hut for me back then.
Look up Ekas & Mawi on Wannasurf, some good info on that site.
Back in 92 we surfed on our own not many surfers around back then but unreal place.
Enjoy.

Be able to fly straight there one day, this is a photo i took of the future Lombok International Airport in `08.... couple more cows mite help things along though.
Most people don't make the effort to leave Bali. But Lombok is great! Flies under the radar a bit, compared to Bali & Sumbawa.
Hang at Kuta for a week, then Ekas for a week. Great breaks close by. Garupuk Bay just East of Kuta has some more leaner orientated waves. Mawi is a quality left, and a bit of a right when a little smaller. Me and my Japanese mate scored Mawi on a really solid day, just the two of us. The best waves I've ever had ! Spitting barrels, with 1 mate. I got belted by one wave, and came to shore for a 15 minute breather, chatting to some yanky tourists, and this yank couldn't believe the waves we riding... he said, "wow, you guys keep disappearing in there, and coming out again". I guess he never saw much surfing....
This the cow mother and calf, shot taken Padang Padang
and after a big day we drank this at Karamas
and then we did this
and its only AM
dunno if a big audience is a good idea mac, billboard`s confidence is at a all time high atm and i`m pretty sure asea`s up to something as well, but having said that, you have the PBB and the UFO, R2 is going to be another tough one i think.
Bigger the better, can't wait to show some form and put things right! Been little water of late with injury,no waves and a sick relative. My luck will change soon, sitting in hospital as we speakLooks like the gang is ready for the kill.
Ladies doing weaving on Lombok, they work on one piece for months at a time, learn very young and the best weavers have the best chance of getting married, so they told me. looked hard there is lots of different colour cotton reels, was good to watch
Their systems of manufacturing are very labour intense,I know first hand on a buying trip a couple of years ago,I made some gigs and work benches and production was made easier,I wasn't sure I was doing the right thing but the owner thanked me the next visit and I was greeted with bigger smiles from the workers.
They do make very nice handmade goods and after seeing it in production you have a better appreciation for the finished goods, great photo thommo

Staying over Sanur, hitting the reefs over there & maybe a short ride in a boat to shippies.
Scored the last 2 yrs this time of yr
Short fast left
Long long right
Yeh Ive been back for a fortnight, just enjoying all the input about Lombok, or the hijacked thread. Not enough swell for Banko Banko, outside Eckas so I surfed Greupuk, Mawi and Segar. The roads are shocking so tried to avoid driving. Wasnt keen on full day travel from Kuta to Banko Banko or the drive to Eckas. Might try Sumbawa next time
Mac & BYF
Yes I had been out, most days on my own or only 2 or 3 guy's.
The trade winds back off or swing in Nov so if you get high tide am B4 the wind picks up you can get some waves.
If not will do some trops to Medawi or Nusa Lembongon.
