For longboarding, Maldives are great. Boats are waiting right out the front of the airport, so lugging the board around is really simple. Plus heaps of the waves suit longboards.
There's 1 beachbreak in town, at Male, plus a point break there too I think. Otherwise it is lovely long point breaks. Rocky reefs with minor coral patches. No body got a coral cut. 1 guy got a 3 urchin spines through his booty, but he was taking off too deep to often, and standing on the reef heaps to get back out. Most of us pretty much never wore booties.
With leg rope help you could always seem to do shallow swimming under waves to avoid all reef contact.
There was about 5 drops of blood on the entire trip, mainly associated with ladders and stairs actually. 2 guys received bruises from their own board. So basically you can say there were zero injuries for everyone.
Lost surf sessions were entirely self inflicted by a few seniors, from bottles of red, or from a dozen beers with whiskey chasers!
Plus heaps of Right Hand Points!!! With a great selection of lefts thrown in.
Cheers.
Just cruised Simondo's youtube channel to see if he had posted any video of his Maldives adventure and came across a few interesting vids....I especially liked this one - what a wicked idea!!!
^^^^thats cool simgromdo....first time you have been lost for words i imagine.
thought you would go into all the tech stuff. when i saw the vid was only two minutes i assumed they fast forwarded the interview to pack in your spiel
Nice one - how did it feel to be interviewed by the great man like that? I was thinking that you were going to be the interviewer and quizzing him about his designs etc......I enjoyed that!
Geez Simondo you had some cool guy's on board bloody wish I went, your killing me with this but keep it coming I'm loving it
i was talking to sdr about the maldives today. he said save your bickies as we would love it on the longboard and shorties. so that is my plan now..
excellent work grom man...you bastard
Maldives - save you bickies!
Excellent advice. It's a fun wave haven (heaven!). It's not over-run yet either. Get on board before it turns into Bali. It's a beautiful place.
More right hand point breaks than you can care to poke a stick at!! Plus a stack of lefts thrown in. Most locations have multiple waves within a shortish distance, so the crowds do get dispersed. And generally the crowds are low to start with!
No booties required.
A welshman, a friend for life and a bloke who hasn't been surfing in 27yrs and gets a head dip a few days later - jeepers. What a collection.
Glad you had such a good time Gromdono.....was there any time that you wished you had a shorter board? Were you happy with your selection? have you come back with any ideas about your next board from Bob (or has he got an order already)?
I would think that having him around to watch you surf for that many sessions that he would be able to build you an absolute ripper or 2 with pretty much no input form yourself.
Exactly Ted.
You know what, I only surfed my EvoII. Zero surfs on anything else.
It never really got juicy enough for me to get onto my Step-Up 7'10.
I just love Longboarding.
I would still be a happy man, even if I only ever rode boards that 9'0 or longer, and never rode a sub 9'0 ever again!
my shortest board will a 7'8 as of next week heaps more fun than pissing around waiting for to get good to use the shorty. yesterday proved that too me
Ted,Chrispy finally woke uphe is now a true longboarder and not the confused sole he once was
From what I've seen Chrsipy rode his 8ball and new SDR the best,Asea best on his now Simondo's EVO 2,Simondo best either ufo or evo 2.
