With the Australian Open of Surfing on in Manly I decided to drop by and have a look at it yesterday as I was in the neighbourhood. The wind was onshore and the surf was crap. But the couple of heats I watched of the young fellas blew me away - it was Air this Air that etc Stupid!!
Anyway the main reason I went down was to check out the new skate bowl.....I had seen them making it a few weeks prior and it looked impressive. Yesterday there was no action on the Bowl so it was all shut off and the shots I took of it did not do it justice. Instead I have stolen a few from other sites for you to see it. I am sure Chrispy would love to let rip in it. I must say that I got blood flow just looking at it. Its amazing. Big Tony Hawk hits it later in the week apparently.
One other thing - having had a little walk around the retail areas there yesterday I can assure you that the Reef girls look just as good in real life as they do in the mags.
Thanks Ted. Just had a fairly futuristic thought after seeing that.
I was firstly thinking its so cool that they can build a massive skate bowl so fun can still be had when the surf is onshore crap.
Then i thought hmmm, that bowl would hold a lot of water. So will we ever see the day when event organisers build a temporary wave pool on the beach (for when the surf is onshore crap)? They could even have some kinda overhead pulley system of ropes etc to "tow" surfers into oncoming ramp sections?
Thats all...better go have my tablet and a lay down now -Mark
Only bummer with the bowl is the lines are goign to be long for the stands and you can't see it from the walk way well inside at least
thanks ted. looks like they have tried to give it more vert lines than the usual bowl with hips and lines. it is a deep bitch that is.
oh&s is all i can think off. my mate will be skating there and bowlarama at bondi do they still have the massive half pipe at kiele park? loved that place when i was a kid. then again growing up sk8n five dock bowl, anything was flash compared to that place
yeah the 1/2 Pipe was still there last time I checked. Its not as big as you may think - I remember those old big ramps in the old days seemed massive but no longer do. There is a bowl there as well now.
I take some shots for ya next time I am down taht way and have the camera on me.
^^^^ted,i tm pretty sure we skated a old 10'ft half pipe there. i know they built a street set up and a smaller ramp. must have torn it down
