My old surfing mate has been collecting boards for about 50 years (he is nearing 70 ) He has about 40-50 boards ranging from old knee boards to a new minimal.I have taken a few shots of the more interesting ones . this one is a 9 ft 6 McDonagh board . From the 60 s I assume some of you might know more about them . If you do I would love to hear your input
It's cr.p Mac . Rain , sleet , wind . It takes a bit to put me off having a surf but I stayed dry today .
Mr Tassie - you have it going on!!! I am loving your contributions to the greenroom - long may they continue. We love photos of boards....any types of boards (mostly) and waves - today you have excelled with both!!!
I think its time we started a new thread on that subject....a little like the one in the short board room. I will take some pics tom of the beach and start one up.
yeah for sure. Heaps of times I take shots but never really share them as there seems no real thread for them. Then when we get a good day we start a new thread.....I think it would be good to have an ongoing thread that way everyone can stash their shots in there and we can see what everyone is getting at their local on the day. For a start I would love to see some more shots from Simondo the Super Grom when those points of his are firing......yet to see much from those Queenslanders although mac has shown some great skills with the shots he has posted to date
Thanks Ted like I said there are about 40 more boards so I can keep them coming for a bit yet . Must admit I find the old boards fascinating with the different fin , board shapes .
Would look forward to seeing some shots from your local breaks .some topless sunbathers would be nice haven't seen them in a while .
Anyone got any tips on taking nice surf shots . My attempts are mostly failures , too far away , too dark , missed the moment .
Hey Tas looks cold down there mate I came very close to joining the Tassie police force about 10 years ago but settled in tropical north Nsw instead here is a little bit of info on the old log I love the old boards to mate would love you to post some more pics when Ted starts the thread
Cheers Boof

Now this is good guys,Ted thing of a great title because it will go down in history.
As Ted said I sent Tassieman a PM requesting photos from way down south and with our NZ mates,Simon Bells and if that lazy dog go off is dogbed WA.
The Pup has delivered a few photos which I've enjoyed but needs to step it up.
well maybe we should have two threads - lets carry this on for boards and start another one for surf shots. Boofy has loads of pics of his buddies boards that can in this one!!!!
Any ideas for the new thread name
"Waves of the Greenroom" ?
or "Waves from the Greenroom"
or maybe just "The Greenroom"
I do not know - let me have another 10 beers this evening and see if my creative juices (well whats left after working in an academic institution) can get flowing
Pardon the tautology, but "it's deja vu all over again".
This is the full story McDonagh story in surfresearch

And it notes that the brother, Dennis, was the founder of the SDS chain in 1967.
It was only yesterday that I was talking to a young lady at work about a SDS shopping bag she had and I recalled how I once went to a SDS store in George street Sydney all the way from out in the western suburbs just to buy a surfy Tee shirt around 44 years ago.
It must have been that first store.
Funny, it was only a year or so after I had my one and only surfing experience on a 2 week vacation up at woopie and it would be another 30 or more years before I tried it again. But I always considered myself a surfer, I just couldn't and didn't surf.
Thanks for the feedback OB and Boof ,fascinating stuff . I guess with the script that makes this one mid 60s .
Good career choice giving the Tassie police the miss Boof . Give the greens a few more months there will be no police force , no education system , no forestry , no mining .but we will have legalized gay marriage . Bob Browns dream state
Ha ha very true , have you got friends on the West Coast down here OB , you seem to be in the know .
Went for a fishy/sb, quad/thruster ( 4+1 ) a wideish swallow tail, fairly low rocker, with a big single concave all the way through to the tail. And lots of colour ( custom spray )
Dims are 7'2 x 22 x 3+1/8.
ordered it just on 3 weeks ago, so shouldn't be to much longer.
