Just been looking at some pics off Aqua Bumps, Uge is in NZ atm and some of the spots look unreal!!
Its looking like it might be my OS trip next year
I wouldn't mind going surfing over there either Doggie. I've google earthed around the Taranaki area and it looks good and Whanga bar is another nice looking wave.
A couple of weeks over there would see you surfed and shagged out.
I new it I new it your coming to play with our sheep Sounds good doggie thank god my daughters are living over seas
just out of Auckland , to be honest most of the time it blows on shore up there ,Kagey goes over there a bit , the best would be come over go were the swell is . We are 6hrs away Raglan is 2hrs Taranaki 31/2 hrs Shippes is to the north maybe 3hrs if it's working thats the place to go .You would find somthing some were . Whanga Bar is another but can go weeks without working . We get the most consitant swell down here in the winter , you could vist your brother
Don't know were that is , that's a crowd for us , big shock for me when I go to the GC or Byron just the waters warmer
Hey Doggie if you are ever considering a trip let us know and I will fire you through some real info!!! Sproutdaily and Urge have been scoring some good waves the last 10 days or so - but I think they could have done better!!!!!! This is the best time to travel over there as the water is still warm (relatively speaking) and you will still get late season swell on the east coast and the early winter swells start to hit the west. You will get nice weather (well you should), off shores and minimal crowds. Especially mid week. You would also do well to visit the area around TB at the time of the year as the water temp will be bearable - not too mention the hundreds of quality set-ups an hour each way of him. NZ is a great trip in a van as you can do the coast to coast bolt in a flash, stay anywhere you want (most of the time for nothing as long as you clean up after yourself) and in the evening you can try your luck at the local pub!!!
Do not be fooled by those nice looking pics of the west coast beaches of Auckland - Piha and Murawai - when they are good they are very good - but in my opinion still nothing on a good quality Aussie Beach break - the west coast gets continually pounded by SW swell (pretty much never flat) so the sand is always moving around. What can be epic one day can be crap the next and vice versa. They also get massive tides so may only work for a few hours then disappear. You would be best served hitting Raglan on your way to Taranaki and then bolt over East to see TB and the magical waves on that side. Some of those spots will leave you gasping for breath I can assure you!!! The cool thing about life over there is if you can read a weather map, have some inside info and are prepared to travel you will always find reasonable to above average waves most days. On other days you will get yourself some absolute gems that you will never forget. On the other hand there is not a lot of crowds so it can get kinda lonely........
Good morning Ted ,Yep the snow is the killer when it melts was trying to get doggie to come in july Lol I even find it warmer in the BOP then somtimes shoot up to Ohope / Whakatane that time of year, Hood Gloves Boots for me tend to stay on the SUP it's much warmer I preperfer the big stuff on it too . Muriwai on Sunday just gone, water was quite warm as is the norm this time of year..I say warm I mean light wetsuit. It was 3-4 foot but closing out quite badly so quite sh1t. yes the banks shift around a lot.
You'd have enjoyed it Doggie just I struggled, just off the left of the picture is a fair left hander right out the back. This day there were a few S*ppers who scored heaps to be fair..only when they bailed their boards were going everywhere! Anyway one of them caught this set wave which was maybe pushing 5 ft as it peaked further out than the other set waves, this supper lost it in the top quarter of the wave and got slam dunked..the whole line up was like 'ooooooooooooooooh' and grinning..but what made me laugh was people were talking in two's n three's and nobody gave a sh!t if he was alright or even surfaced..bad I know but I did chuckle.
