Thanks for the kind words everyone, not my best surfing or waves but its a start. If you can't laugh at yourself well you sure can't laugh at others.
I want to get some more look back video then I'm going to face the camera facing the nose,I think it the way to film.

Kadi great to see you out and about mate

Obct great idea mate, not only will it sit nice and flush,it will be a very clean look unlike the gopro mounts.

Don't forget that you gave a wide angle lens, you can point the camera off at 45 degrees and you are still in the shot, and so is the beautiful scenery. Don't want to miss the beautiful scenery.

Good vid Mac, especially for a first effort, I know because I recently tried to take some footage with a new Muvi Cam I got, and I had to throw away every second of it because it was so bad. The problem is, I was hand holding it and I'm just not a good enough surfer to do that.

Speaking of which, I'm thinking of embedding a mount directly into the nose of the board using a modified leash plug.

I simply pushed out the stainless pin with a pin punch, cleaned up an 8M x 1.25 stainless set screw before covering it with PVA release agent (that's the blue stuff you see on the side of the screw).

Then for some strength, I threaded some fin rovings through the now empty pin hold and added a heap of finely chopped glass into the hole and the resin mix.

The used Q-cels in the resin mix (epoxy, because the only polyester I had was filler and that was too gluggy), along with some more finely chopped glass and poured it into the leash plug, then carefully push the set screw to the bottom, before plugging the pin holes to make sure all the resin did not fall out the sides.

Once it hardened, I just unscrewed the set screw and the came straight out leaving a perfect thread cut all the way to the base.

I was going to drill and tap, but I decided to do it this way because the thread would go deeper, even a plug tap would not go as deep.

Not sure yet if I'm going to use it, I first have to decide what sort of mount to put on top of it after I set it in the board.

Hi OBCT,
If it helps at all, you can get adaptors for most Muvi cameras that allow you to use the Gopro surfboard mounts. this allows you to use the stick on mounts that are unbelievably strong, or if you want a flush look you can set a FCS fin plug (just one) into the nose of your board, then there is another mount that comes as an extra with the stick on kit that you can put into the fin plug and secure it just like a fin, so its real easy to put on and take off, and you hardly notice the plug when the mounts out.
I can post some pics of both set-ups if you like.

The easiest way to do it would be just to buy the Muvi board mount, JB Hi-Fi have them for $34, that's cheap compared to what Gopro want for a separate board mount, matter-o-fact, gopro seem to have a scorched earth pricing policy for all their accessories.

He's the strange thing, I may get the Muvi board mount and still sink the plug in the nose, why?

Because by using the Muvi mount without the adhesive, I can easily go back to having a perfectly smooth board for the 99.999% of the time that I'm not using the Muvi.

I use these for camera mounts:

www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/scotch-fasteners-25mm-x-76mm-black-4-pack-3m0374355

2 strips on the board. One for a camera and another for an attachment point for a tether to the camera, just in case.

No gluing, removable, quick, cheap, add to anyone's board, skateboard, bicycle, car, etc.

obct, the last Gopro stick on board mounts I got were just over $30 for 2 on FleeBay with the extra connection for the FCS plug system included .

And kadilak, just be careful with home made stick on jobs, the lifeguards at my local all have Gopros, and they didn't pay for any of them!!!

Yeah, my RD32 floats as well. I use the a small length of string holding another attachment point. My camera came with a suction cap mount and various brackets. Suction cap held very tight but the connected brackets took a beating with every wave in the paddle out.

Nice little vid Mac.

Try using Vimeo rather than youTube as Vimeo saves the HD vision as filmed and not mono only (and no ads)....also allows any music - surprised youTube allowed Pete Murray.

That aside, I felt the flow with you which is the aim of filming huh ?

Cheers, Chris.

Here are those pics I promised. In one I included a great little spanner for tightening the system up on those cold mornings when the fingers just cant do it!
And before someone asks I dont Have two mounts on the same board, the white one is not stuck down.
Hope this helps

Try and put the camera just off centre on the board - if you are natural out it on the right side a few inches across from the stringer and if you are a goofy a few inches to the left. This allows the camera to give a more open shot of your stance - and hence the background. I put a plug in and then a small leggie holder as well so I can run a safety cord. The older I get the more risk averse I tend to be
