Geez Ted, sounds like you got it worse than here although I am tucked away back up on the harbour, wasn't terrible here, pretty windy and rainy but not as bad as the media thought, think they got a bit excited by the anniversary of the Pasha bulker. Lots of beach erosion with the high tide, no waves anywhere up here today even inside the harbour is not lined up.
Live wind graph is interesting, we had wind all day yesterday and you didnt down there and then when the southerly came through seems you got hit harder. And now it's a NE up here?? And southerly down there??

swam in half a foot this morning. i made bigger waves from when i was doing the white whale jumps in front of the jap tourists
yeah its been some weird wind issues for sure!!! Sprout Daily just posted a few shots from Deadmans (just south of the Bower in Manly for those not in the know). Some big sets coming in!! Its a nasty spot that one - one false move and you will be having a close call meeting with the rocks!
In terms of size, it does not seem too big, but it's a hell of a mess.
If you know the northern beaches you would probably recognise the little boat launching bay beside the Golf Club at long reef. South swells hardly ever get in there and it's usually a millpond, not today.
There was even a tinny floating around in the middle with only 3 ft of the bow sticking out of the water.
This is what it looks like from the long reef headland looking towards DY.
This is Longy beach about 1 hour before high tide, I doubt there will be much of it left. If you look closely you can see 4 x morons (commonly known as clubies) heading out in 2 rubber duckys, I assume they would probably say it was for the purpose of practice.
There was a big crowd as DY, even the weather channel were doing a story.
Here's those idiot clubies who launched at Longy, they were outrunning waves at DY. I can't say if it's practice or play, but I do know everyone on the beach was unimpressed and more than one mention the cost to rescue them if it all went bad.
Yeah pup, at 8 - 10ft ft it's a great spectator sport to be sitting on the hill watching people get washed over into the pool after a missed time take off.[}:)]
Nice shots fella, Those photos of deadmans are nutz, good find ted.
And how far up is the water in the longy to Dee why shot, seems more like a storm surge with the high tide more so than a huge swell, although saying that there is plenty of swell up here.
I'd say comfortably 12 -15 ft, up here I'd guess its 10-12ft but hard to tell no one surfing, either way, past my comfort zone,
Here's a sequence of the same photos as Teds hope it works

We were out in that today on the boat. It was still pretty messy but not too much wind and plenty of swell. We had to get a pilot off a big car carrier and it was rolling heaps. Kind of like a four storey building rolling on to of you.
Ha Chrispy hit me up for a 2 foot LM surf in the morning had one look at the cams and its going to be big, shortboarders only big.Byron was starting to look wild with Julian Rocks getting smashed in the background.
Go hard tomorrow Chrispy see you on 9 news for all the right reasons,I can see it now.
Crazy sb'er paddles out at d-bah heads around the corner and into a massive snapper line up,he paddles over the first three set waves and takes the four all the way to main, the reports asks how good was that and he replies how the fk am I going the get my car back
