I have never owned a single fin, don't attempt to cross step and can't nose ride, but this looks COOL. Even the music is cool.
Yes, really good, that's what I like to see, plenty of movement and very little off the tail.
Daneli, I can't cross step or nose ride either but I almost never ride with my side bites in any more because I can catch more waves without them
Just try it a couple of times and see if it's easier to paddle, and quite frankly, I can't notice any change at all on the turning.
Thank god someone is posting quality, instead of that crap asea dishes up
Nice video,thanks for posting Daneli.
I you are not driving hard off the bottom or top or surfing reallly sucky waves then the sides are just excess drag and useless. In everyday average surf I reckon a single fin out turns a 3fin every time - once you learn to slow everything down and let the board work for you that is. And before anyone slams me - yes I run a 2 + 1 setup on my board but I do tend to surf silly waves at times and just cant be bothered dickin with fin changes.
Very nice brings back good memories. I met my wife at that beach in 1985. (Yes I am getting old) We would never have stopped there but the coast highway goes right next the beach at Cardiff and it was almost the same size and conditions and we stopped for a surf and kept coming back there on and off for the next four months. Fun wave and was the first time I saw modern mals which were just getting popular. Bought one when I got home and haven't been on a shorty since
mac at work like you hoping to use the single fin this w/end or early next week.I had to forego my adhd style when i jumped on the single fin noserider at wattegos a couple of days ago, geeze it was a nice wave down there will have to go more often.Just slow every move up and walk in slow motion.
Got 2 single fins . One is a 9'6 log and the other a 10 footer and love them. More pivot turning than a driving turn. I'm going to get a 7'6 double ender egg style board made up with plugs for a quad set up and a box to ride it as a single as well.
Cant wait to feel the difference between the two setups. I'll post some pics when I get it.
Wave entry should be a tad sooner but if he outline is the same then there may not be a great deal of difference in the glide.
Unless having slightly more weight will give you greater momentum?
mac if you're beefing up for round 2 then you will probably need a board with more flotation as i am guessing you;re fitness will also be up the creek.
So guys what do you think of 3 verses 3 1/8,both same Redline outline 9.6 x 23?
What will the difference be,any?
Love the pivot turn on a single fin, you can actially get a bit of zip out of it if you time it right, looks clean too when you pivot it and shoot along the face to the next section. You can get drive off you bottom turns just have to make it more of a free flowing arc as opposed to a snappt turn I reckon
Cant say that the single fin is much good for top turns though! Thats the beauty of the modern mals, you can do both with a quick change on the beach.
