The break down -
For Slater to clinch his historic 10th ASP Crown at the Rip Curl Pro Search Puerto Rico, the following scenarios must occur:
- If Slater finishes Equal 3rd or better, he clinches the 2010 ASP World Title.
- If Slater finishes Equal 5th or Equal 9th, Smith must win the event to send the ASP World Title Race to Hawaii.
- If Slater finishes Equal 13th or Equal 25th, Smith must finish Equal 3rd or better to send the ASP World Title Race to Hawaii.
- Essentially, if Smith fails to finish higher than Equal 5th, Slater claims the 2010 ASP World Title.
FYI
Yeah ditto smh. I always want the aussie boys doin well but if not them then definately Slater. Good luck to him for his tenth.
I remember watching Slater absolutely smoke Owen Wright in the Bells Bowl in 2009, Owen was on fire, but the judges gave it to Owen.
Slater surfed the Bowl far better and found some nice tubes, which it hard in the bowl. It knocked Slater out that year, and you could see he was pissed off, but contained it.
Owen surfed like an 18 year old dynamo on coke, but Kelly surfed a smooth experienced refined heat. The Rip Curl crew were so happy for their boy though !!
In my book, Kelly won convincingly.
I can't find it on Heats on Demand, but I did not look hard.
Found it now...
Around 1 min Slater finds 2 tubes. It was even better from down on the beach.
Just on Owen Wright,he is a contender for the future,he has surfed so well this year and taken some names along the way
2009 was a good year for the Bells Comp. Quite a bit of surfing at Winki by the men. Kekoa was surfing Winki really well too. The basic comp rules are, women do not surf Winki, only Bells (or alternate beachies), and Mens comp does not surf Winki over the Easter Weekend, but can surf there outside of Easter. The reasoning, Winki doesn't handle the crowds.
