Winki Lowers was super fun today ! I took the 9'6 Brewer out, because it's a complete wave hog. Last Sunday (I think it was), I had so many people drop in on me. So I thought I would get the wave hog out today. But me & a girl were the only ones really on Lowers!
That board paddles so fast, I was able to scratch out to the bomb sets as they approached, and scramble inside too. The Winki wave machine was on, and I think I got about 25 waves in about 1.5 hours. I was possessed !!
There was one bomb set, only about 2m in the face, but I took off in the perfect spot, and just pointed it down the line, nudged up and down a tiny bit for speed, mini speed pumps, but mostly just holding the line, racing the wave. A very long fast ride, sliding along deep in the pocket the whole way... Well overhead on take-off... Just a really fun day at the office !
Some pics of the Brewer to follow.
Mac, I'll be on the Goldie from roughly 18-24 July, or something... Fingers crossed The Bank & LM can put on a show !!
Sorry, crappy photos!
But this is a nice board. A 9'6 Brewer Tuflite. So durable!
..... up load shat it's self.....
Hang 10... or 20 !
Its a good feeling when you get a few good waves Simondo.Well done and its still flat here. Its been like a proper Winter this year so you will probably get a lot more of it.
I've only ever been down that way once. Back in Winter in 2002 I took the family down to Melbourne to visit some friends and drove around through Geelong down to Torquay and on to Bells. As we were getting closer I could see these lines of swell marching up the coast and when we got there we parked sort of up above Winkipop.
The waves were going off with plenty out but geez it was cold. It was easy 6-8 feet. I took plenty of pics. Its got a real different feel about it down there compared the NSW. We ended up having lunch at a pub then wandered around some surf shops and got the car ferry back and went home the other way. Did the full tourist route.
The centre fin is the True Ames 9 Inch L-Flex B. B is for extra base length (equals loads of drive for point breaks).
The side bites are larger than GXQ. But they are 80/20's in foil. Semi upright fin. Shoots down the line well. Draws out big long power cutties too.
---- sh!t... upload stuffed up again !!
SMH, you should think about a surf trip down here.... Bells Easter Classic each year is a pisser too !!
The leggie is from Kelly Slater's start up company (?), Komunity. I think Quiksilver might own them anyway (?).
Balin do better leggies anyway.
I have an old "K" leggie (branded similar with the "K" which overlays the Merrick Triple Hex Symbol). It's a tiny 6mm chord for little boards in little waves! I haven't used it since leaving Sydney !
But it is a rare leggie out here.... the old "K" leggie.... Bought in Hawaii...
I notice that Merrick have leggies too. Also rare out here.http://komunityproject.com/site.html#/home/
