In August 1996 I decided to try my luck on an early winter swell season in Morocco and headed there in August.......biggest wave I got was shoulder high......I wanted to beat the crowds and it was only time I could get off work. I missed out - I did not know that the Atlantic just did not deliver any swell until Sept at the earliest. I had been in Bali in April / May on the way to Europe and had 2 months of perfection and minimal crowds. Anyway I was a young punk who thought he knew everything.....anyway we fast forward to my most recent trip. Bali end of Oct / early Nov....and I had 2 surfs in 9 days. The biggest wave I caught was shoulder high.....and that was a freak set at Nusa Dua. So I come home a shaken man - when will the GF let me run off for a 9 day trip again by myself with a mate? When will both of us be allowed again? Maybe a while.......yes I was dissappointed but to be honest I have never not had good waves on any other trip between that fateful trip to Anchor Point in 96 and Bali last week. So I guess I should just suck it up and smile.........there are plenty of other people in the world having a worse time than me right now - especially those that had been there the week before as well!!!!!!!!!
Anyway here are some of the highlights.
Set waves at Canggu - yep it was smoking!!!!!!!!
Here is a shot of Balangan - three young gromets were ripping it up in the whitewater!!
That day I decided to visit the Uluwatu Temple to see if things had changed..........
well there was still no swell
and the monkeys were still hungry
and there were good views still to be had
But I had a nice time drinking beers at La Planca
Enjoying the sunsets
And hanging by the pool
So all in all it was a fun trip........just without the waves. My next trip comes in December to the wild west and I am hoping that Huey smiles on me once again. He owes me.
mate top story, shame about the waves but hey you live another day and that another day may be the day you get waves loved the pics also
