The sweep can be a real pain in the bum on those big days, especially on the changing tide! (mid tide). But sometimes the swells just over-ride the tide anyway.

Here's a few more pics from the "what I surfed on the Goldie this morning while Mac snuck up to Noosa and didn't invite anyone" file - Mark
PS Somehow I think it might have been just a tad bigger here than Noosa!

Thanks Locky. Well it was a challenge today, as usual when its big at Superbank....fairly constant paddling and duckdiving for the pleasure of about 3 waves per hour. But when the prize is a 200 to 300m ride on a big wave you kinda forget about the near drownings in between! - Mark

Thanks Mac, I remember a similar day about 4 years ago when i surfed the Alley/Lacey's on my 9'1 Tolhurst tuflite. Somehow i got out and it was just me and 3 tow-in teams. The sweep was too strong to sit near the point with them so i sat wide off Lacey's and snared a few bombs before getting washed in halfway up Palmy. I think what helped was I didn't try to paddle out the back of the alley like all the other guys (who couldn't get out). Instead i just headed almost sideways towards Burleigh and eventually got to that deep water section and then paddled back around to the peak. Not saying that i would've made it out there today though as it wasn't as clean or friendly!! - Mark

Nice work Mark and Locky. Keep those pics coming. Looks like there is some real size up there on the Goldie. The period has really increased down here this morning but the wind is howling from the SW as I wake. Will pack the gun and the camera as some of our reefs should be smoking this morning.

Obct should be getting some great ones down his way as well.

I had a couple of hours out there today which is a rarity for me, I avoid it like the plague. It was not really Snapper but more Rainbow into Greeny.

Quite uncrowded to be honest. Got about 10 waves in 2 hours. Wasnt great though, actually pretty average for Greeny which is still 10 x better than most beachies on most days. 3 feet with 4-5 clean up sets every now and then and with the NW making it a bit bumpy. Stoked I took the time to have a paddle though.

Watched the Alley early this morning for 30-40 mins and just looked like a struggle still, unless a ski or boat was dropping you back to the top of the point a one wave effort, and the wind was sort of on it as well.

I took a leaf out of Mark's book from boardculture and paddled out at Lacey's this morning on the angle towards Burleigh, a serious paddle mission but I made it eventually, my brother in law didn't lol. Of course I won't let him live that down for a while, much to his chagrin. I got some super fun waves before the north kicked in. It was a bit bumpy on some but overall worth the effort.

Thx Sepirott, glad it worked. I should have done the same instead of watching Burleigh early for about 1 1/2 hrs and just hoping that the devil wind would drop. It had some serious size to it. - Mark

Surfed Burleigh today Mark it was uncrowded early and quiet fun. Looking forward to the next new swell on Friday, getting greedy now lol. Went into Boardculture this morning you have some real nice mals in there. The blonde fella made a beautiful flat white. I told him that he wasn't rated as high as you in the barista stakes on seabreeze so yours must be bl**dy awesome lol!!
