Hey Breezers,
This is a bit of an introduction, I'm a newbie.
You reach a certain age and some fellas get a new set of clubs. I got The Blue Dream.
Thanks heaps to Simondo for his review www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Surfing/Longboarding/McTavish-EvoII-Review/) and Mac (62mac) for his advice on fireball options. I went with the Fireball Evo II, and wrapped about it.
McTavish stuffed up the spray first time around, but were great about it and let me keep the first board until this one was done. So, I've had a few great sessions on the EVO II and love it. The rocker has a “three stage profile”, good bit of tail flip, flat mid section and moderate nose flip. This really suits points with steeper take offs and early sections, transitioning to flats and inside sections, he he, long rides!
I'm stoked for some sessions at the Alley and LM (think I cracked the code)!
Anyway, there were a few dramas with the custom process with McTavish so I've included some tips for others that will be getting a custom McTavish in the future. I'm not cryin' here just passing on a bit of advice.
- If at all possible head down (or up) to the Byron factory and place your order in person, and check the order form! My second order form was also stuffed (colours and a logo), even after providing a very detailed mock up.
- If getting a tint, go to the factory on a Thursday and chat with Bill Mclean (master laminator) about colours. Choose the colour you want out of his stock and have his description of it included in the order form (e.g. Australia flag blue, coke, etc). This will give a better chance of getting the colour you want. Mine were stuffed on this board, but it's still sweeeeet as.
- Of course, get advice from Mac (62mac) if needed!
If you see the Dream, say G'day.
Gday TDog,
I am also a newby to this forum and also have a Fireball Evo II a great unforgiving board. I am glad your happy with it. I started surfing 2 years ago and tried surfing on a couple of different boards as was reluctant to spend the coin on a Mctavish, however I wish I had done this from day one as the boards do exactly what they are described and the team at byron are great.
WOW what a great looking pool.
That's a lovely board mate,what's the dims
Who did you put the order with
Hey Blair,
Yep love this shape. I've surfed for ages but (until recently) hadn't longboarded since the mid '90s. Spot on though, its really forgiving, but no slug either, very responsive and so fun.
and only 20000 to catch up too .... lovely stick T ... you'll go a long long long way in this forum now , you've just made mac an orgasm .... think Simo just ducked out to his mancave too
Another McT Evo 11 rider here. I'm going trade it for a larger size but will probably go with second hand again until I get better or find less crowded breaks. I hope to get a custom like in the future, looks awesome.
Gotta share a Mctavish story, already wrote about my first Mal previously- Big Red - 9'6 Firebaall - 2009 model - but thought I would share an update
Recently sold it to a mate for a small amount cos I knew it would get him stoked and I was after something a bit different, he is a die hard shortboarder, noticed a change in his attitude after a few sessions on Big Red, the shortboard gathered dust, he brang along the old beaten up Big Red to every session - sucky beachies, fat reef breaks, hollow reef breaks, I mean everwhere!
He just knocked the fin box out of it surfing over some shallow reef and lost the fin, said he now wants to hang it on a wall, feel like offering him a carton of beer for it back and putting in a new fin myself - the best mal I have ever ridden!
You should call that blue board Viagra ha ha, seriously sexy board!
Hey Souwester,
Know what you mean, after scrapping with the shorties at GC points the last few years, the mal has revitalised me.
Now I can catch more waves, feel the soul, get more "g'days" and less steely eyed stares.
Beautiful board T-Dog.
I see you, and raise you with this handshape!
Thanks Simondo, but damn, you smashed me! Hopefully one day I'll get a handshape! Nice.
That's the spirit TDog don't let those newbies get the better of you
Anyway have a great day peoples time to hit LM with cruiser in hand
Nice stick Tdog yep I'm in the EvoII fan club as well , thanks for the tips on ordering not so easy for me to get to McTs never mind you can't go wrong on that thing mate Cheers
Thanks for the order tips TDog, the Evo II is next on my list when I can get the cash and justification together. I look forward to hearing how it goes!
