Thanks guys....its really hard to tell how much to leave in the rails - but then when you stick it in a rack on the side you can see how much thickness there really is. My last custom the fella took too much off the rail and ruined the board for me - I know that this is a bit different (as its 3 ft longer ) but I thought it would be better to have too much and still be able to surf it (I am a heavy weight) than not enough and be annoyed with it. The goal of this board is that I can out paddle the old boys at the beach on their mals and take waves off them
And SP - with a bit of luck and good management that board will be finished in time for PP!!!!!
Remarkable Ted .... you've done damn good man , really damn good you should be stoked at this , sweet eh
Looking good Ted , love the fin from RG .
Scratched mine on some underwater rocks last week Almost cried .
I've said it befive and I'l say it besix, that a nice look'n stick.
Will it be ready in time for me to snap it in half for you up at PP?
i hate multi talented bragging pricks with pics...that is a wiked effort mate..i cant wait to ride it
So today was a sad day with the great man passing...even more weird it was my first glassing day on a board based off one of his most popular and respected designs - it felt weird - especially as I had changed a few things - nose, tail and concave under the nose but essentially the bones are still the same. I then changed the colour and design as I started to mix the tints - am glad I did but it was strange having had a design idea in my head for 3 months and changing it in 2 mins !! Stoked with the end result (a little more traditional than Chrispys some might say). I did the first layer of the deck this arvo and hope to do the next tom arvo if I can fit it in....the wind and swell look good tom so maybe it will have to wait till Thursday - as if Totally loving this build thing more than i thought I would * 10. I was terrified of glassing going into this build but am not so scared anymore
So Ted you've made an "in the brown". It's looking good. Even with those changes it's still got that flatter rocker so she should trim nice and fast. Great effort and the tint / pigment combo looks sweet.
TK's Board Works - mate that is sweet stuff ..... I'll have a 906 x 23 x 2 5/8 when you're ready please mate
Thanks guys - I am really enjoying the build! Will do some more tom hopefully....got caught up today sadly but still managed 2 surfs
that board is the second best board I've sent lately farking
But seriously what an awesome job you've done. That looks great, can't wait to see it in the flesh, my mate is actually up PP this week and has been surfing creso, 3ft yesterday and n Better today supposedly.... He's a bastard...a lucky bastard
Once again great looking board.
Wher have you been making it, there is heaps of boards on that wall
dont look like you wrapped the bottom ted WHY? would have thought you needed the extra strength and stiffness of a double wrap............. definatly not putting poo on youre work but. just saying both top and bottom layers are usually wrapped.
Here's a nice little clip I found when looking at stuff on Tak. It's from a full movie, be interesting to see.
