I like this place. I come on for some laughs, some good info and stories and some great pics and vids. I like the camaraderie among genuine mates - and those of us like myself who just share an interest in surfing.
The only thing that spoils it is the occasional person who gets unnecessarily and overly negative, or abusive, or nasty in some sneaky way that is in fact cyber-bullying.
I don't always read the fine print on many agreements, but I read this today:
SEABREEZE MEMBER CONDUCT
You agree to not use the Service to:
... upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any Content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable;
... "stalk" or otherwise harass another.
I think admin does a great job overall. On the one occasion I've used the little flag option to report what I saw as abusive behaviour (not against me), they quickly removed the comment in question and the response to it. Good on them. I've reported a second instance just now. See what happens. Perhaps we should all consider that option when we see it happening. Better than feeding the troll.
But i also reckon it's time that admin consider imposing a ban on members who really don't mean their “jokes” in good spirit, but who instead repeatedly use the forum to harass and bully others who are just trying to have a bit of fun and friendship. This behaviour is a clear breach of the agreement we all make. I say warn them once, then boot them off for good.
Anyway, time for a beer and then back to the Breeze for a laugh or two .
All the best, Dave
never read that Dave , the obscene ban is a worry
but agree this is a fun forum , no place for bullying or stalking
i can see what's happening in this forum relating to the sup page.
it was a fun place with the sport being so new. everyone was amped. so much was happening, new boards, smaller boards, paddles, fins, etc. we couldn't get enough of it.
as it grew things changed. trolls came, some too heated debates, pimping, just the pure numbers and then there were those with bad attitudes who think they are above and smarter than the average bear.
it will never be the same again.
so keeping the feel good is going to takes some work. those that detract need to be made known its not acceptable by all who care.
i think the seabreeze rules are good (BASIC commonsense ) and i brake them on occasions and so do a lot of people that think they don't" as for bullying i have never seen it and you would not last 5min's in here if you did, i know the powers to be let some things through to the keeper but 99% of the time they are onto it.
i truly think this place is respectful most of the time
well said LL. I think that we all know who most of the idiots are. So if we just ignore them hopefully they will go away
i believe the decline in the sup room started when doggie and legion got in there.
probably just a coincident thou.
probably bound to happen anyway
I do miss PB though LL - he used to crack me up!!! How many boards did he want to know all about and have a position / view on but yet had never ridden one!! Used to crack me up. He was a ripper of a contributor in the old days. Legion still floats around the traps and posts occasionally. He is also on another common surf related forum but seems to be happy to be a second tier player on that one. That one can be pretty vicious - with a few personalities that do not hold back. I have always enjoyed SB for the simple reason that there are not the big headed idiots who seem to think that they can behave uncivilised because they have a keyboard and a screen. Lets hope it continues.
