Here's one for Mac . What are the dimensions on your UFO ? I'm looking at getting a 9'4 - 9'6 to fill the void between my 9'0 and 10 footer. Would really like a Takayama DT4 or DT3 but they are pretty expensive.
I checked out the McTavish site and really liked the planshape and rocker on the UFO. I emailed them because on the site it only mentions the board ranges from 9'0 - 9'2. I got a pretty quick response saying that length is no problem.
Like the look of the Razar as well. Anyone tried one of these ?

Mate they will make any size you want, mine is 9.3 x 23 x 3 the UFO kicks the Razars arse, the rocker on the UFO is more suited for any size wave where the Razar needs some serious juice to get it going.

Thanks Mac . I was thinking around those dimensions maybe a bit narrower. I've ridden the Original and liked the loose feel of it but I like a more pulled in nose and when I had a good look on the site it was pretty close to what I'm looking for which is a good allrounder in the 9'4 - 9'6 range. I'm not that keen on big wide noses on mals it makes it a bit harder paddling in when its howling offshore and the narrower nose feels a bit better for me when its a bit steeper. A guy called Ben emailed me back with some details.Pretty helpfull. The site is good too because you get a good look at the rockers on the different models. Not many sites have that. It was the first time I've had a look at the McTavish site in ages. Plenty to look at .

Talking UFO's I got a bit excited and wanted to share pics of my new UFO I got made after some sage advice from Mac. Zebra crossing top and shark repellent bottom. Has speed to burn and is heaps of fun. Not one for a small day at Noosa though.

Well where do I startas I said a long time ago I sold my 9.1 pintail
Fireball oh why why dumb dumb mesince then I've been looking / ordering
Razers which lack in the rocker department and only get going in pumping
serious stuff but those days are gone for meI heard about the mix between
the Razer and the Original which has the rocker. So here we go,I ordered the first
custom and the spray and tail shape were all wrong, just a mess up with one too
many people involved or maybe it was me that stuffed half it up.The next can as
I ordered,squaretail and artwork as it should have been.All 9.3 x 23 x 3 but this thing
I found not as lose as the old FB which has and still is the benchmark for me,whyI had the most amazing surfs on that thing and if it was for sale again and still in ok condition I would buy it back, how many boards can you say that aboutAnyway the waves have not been perfect for a long time here but the new UFO has delivered on the odd occasion, paddles in well,no rail catching, fast down the line, turns well but I just whacked a 6 inch in it and yet to work it out,but it did feel good in low tide 2 foot fast waves last week.

So yes its a keeper this one and can see it but cant wait until I get it dialed in.
I think with all the new boards I've had this year I am trying too hard to get the feel for all of them, some days before I reverse out the driveway I am double guessing myself on board selection.Does anybody else suffer from choice

edit- no red thumbs thanks BB

I used to take the wrong board with me every now and then but now I mostly take two boards because I've got a van.
I'm less than 5 minutes drive from the waves but its a pain when you turn up with the wrong board.
I wonder if they would make a board with the flatter rocker up forward that the Razar has with the tail kick and the hip of the Original model. I like the flat rocker up forward because they trim faster. Might be worth asking.

The board does get some double takes when its being carried and the bottom is on display
It is a bit more of a show pony than its owner

Geez thats going to be hard going back after five months mate
Did you run into Californian Bob who hangs out where we had a chat?
He was out today and got a great wave from LM into Greenmount on
his own handmade Mal.
He was later seen with Budweiser in hand cooking a BBQ on top of the hill.
Nice guy in and out of the water, his wave count is always high.
Yeh no problem retiring at Rainbow Bay,very nice spot.

Some waves down here.... A funny swell today....
40 people at overhead Bells at 9am this morning, and cold, and misty. Gave that a wide berth.... Took the Brewer Nose Rider over to Point Impossible on this afternoon's low tide, and scored some great waves when I paddled out, but during the last hour is was slim pickings.... Sun was out, no wind, or light off shore... Quite reasonable....

The council has screwed up the gravel / road base mix. It's a slurry of a road in parts, but at least smooth.... But it's 2011, and an absolute disgrace!

UFO
- Back on track!

http://www.mctavish.com.au/_webapp_731696/UFO
Description
The UFO is here! We took the best of our F4 progressive longboard and fused it with the rocker profile of our famous Original model. The F4's elegant lines deliver the speed, the Original's rocker supplies the vertical component! The perfect combo! Our F4 has been really popular with younger competition surfers, and has won heaps of heats and events, due to its great speed and all-round versatility, but jamming it vertical always required extra effort, and many cruisier surfers asked for something a little easier to jam on. Right away we started on a program of tail-rocker experiments, and after several prototypes found the Originals rocker worked the best. That's a 6" nose rocker, and a 4" tail rocker, dropped in late (being fairly abrupt). That leaves the rocker still quite stiff in the engine room under your feet, resulting in plenty of thrust despite the tail rocker. The tail-kick simply allows you to jam vertical, with no loss of speed overall.

-------------
See, I freaking told you guys that "The Original" is a great board. Falling from popularity, but morphing into The UFO now !!
