So was out for a surf tonight (yeah bunch of rum, a hot water bottle and a bottle of IB Profine probably not a great idea) and I'd like to think I'm a pretty laid back tollerant person.

But:

There was a young fella out (high school) on a longboard it was a dropping tide going low there was 3 longboarders and 20+ shortboards sitting on this one bank.

Somehow this kid pissed off the entire line-up I was kinda impressed it takes a fair effort to do that in Manly because of all the blow in's it's pretty tolerant. But he paddled for everything, on a shoulder, on the peak, on the left, on the right, down the middle and then he dropped in on one too many and got a fair and well deserved serve from a shortboarder (if he was over 18 I'm pretty sure it would have been a punch up) and he just talked back at the guy like I said if he was a little older it was on like Donkey Kong and everyone on the peak would have golf clapped- the guy was pissed (I in no way condone violence).

So day goes by this kid drops in on a couple more people and paddles around like a goose and the line up hates him there was a thousand eyes on me and the only other LB'r out there.

Get one more go in, kid walks by me and I pull'm up and talk to him trying to say that not everyone that surfs will be as nice as they guy that pulled him up. And he blew me off, I wasn't trying to be a dick or anything (I couldn't get far enough away from him on the water) just trying to say play nice with the locals.

Am I outa line or what

This young bloke will cop it one day it's only a matter of when.
As for North Narrabeen I surfed there a few times back in the 80's and it's an intimidating place to surf not only due to the localism but the talent out there.

I figure there are only 2 reasons for that kids selfish behaviour.

He's just an arse hole, was born an arse hole and will remain an arse hole until he can no longer shelter under the protection of his childhood and someone teaches him what it's like to be a man. Then, with a bit of luck, he'll start to exhibit some altruistic behaviour

Or

All his short life he's been mummy and Daddies precious little snowflake and told that he's never done a thing wrong and had nothing but praise lavished upon him for whatever he does, regardless of if it's worthy of merit or worthy of score

There was a cure for that when I was a kid, it was called a clip around the lug'ol and it was not always administered by mum, all and sundry would have a go at you and you just had to cop it sweet.

Mind you, there was a down side, many evil men and a few evil women got away with some dreadful atrocities because kids in those days just thought they had it come'n to em.

And your kids forever owe you a debt for gifting life to them on Golden Shores.
