I think this could be a good idea, and have been thinking about it for a while, particulalry for letting some of the others know when your going surfing and posting stuff that you don't want the whole world to see. I wouldn't see it as a replacement for Seabreeze, just in addition.

If anyone wanted to try it, I have created a test group on facebook called "The Longboard Room" at the moment the conditions around the group are as follows;

Closed: Anyone on Facebook can see the group name, its members and people invited to join the group, but only members can see posts in the group. To join a closed group, a member needs to add you, or you can ask to join. People may see when you join or are invited to a closed group, such as in news feed or search. Learn more.

You would need to create a facebook account but you don't have to create the facebook account in your personal name, you could use your forum name - up to you. Once the FB account is created, just serach for "The Longboard Room".

At the moment I am holding the admin to the group but I am happy to pass that on to anyone once established.

See how it goes !! could be a complete flop

I understand mate, but I think moving in another direction like fb is not what seabreeze is all about, ignore them I do my best and fail at times I've kind of turned off SB the last week and all its BS of late.

Anyway I don't care,a core group of people who most have met face to face get along like a house of fire imo. That friendship is priceless.

With a FB group you can then control yourself who See's what, who comes and goes. As you can delete people if they piss you off..

Mac FB is the way of the future. Be it right or wrong, you need to evolve

I use it to keep up with friends all over the world on a daily basis..

The thing with forums is they are like Pubs. You go and hang out with your mates and have a good time. From time to time you need to find a better pub, one with out tools who piss you off and ruin your night. Will there always be tools, of course. Its just a shame with forums you don't get the opportunity to knock someone in the head like you would get to at a pub

FB can be more like a private get together with friends at your home..

Good thought Lacey, although for mine, it's just another place to have to go if you want to see what's happening.

In a past life, I was a moderator of a motorcycle forum, it was much the same as this one, with one marked difference. The administrators appointed moderators who had the ability to moderate each post and were notifiied of any shyte that went on by the reported post function.

It was up to the moderator to prevent the kind of stuff that's been happening recently by either suspending their ability to post, or if they continue to act the pork chop, could be banned for a longer period. If they tried to sign up under a different Avatar, the IP address was captured and that was prevented as well.

The best thing about having a moderator is that the issues people have could be nipped in the bud before they escalate and get personal.

In our case, the Longboard forum would have one or two moderators who could vet each post and generally keep an eye on things, as well as act on any reported posts.

There's my $0.04 cents worth......

One thing I should have mentioned, you can't ask to be a moderator, you need to be asked by the admins. Anyone who wants the so called power, should not be given it, because it just becomes corrupted. The only issue I found with being a mod on the motorcycle forum was that you sometimes had to hold your own opinion in order to maintain decorum.

But, I'm sure you'd make a good mod Pup.... You too Lacey, but don't ask me, you wouldnt like it if I was Mod, ' cos I'd ban the lot of you

Agreed, some other forums I've been a member of have had mods as you've described & seemed to have worked well, might be worth further thought......
