Does anyone know where I can get some of the old fin box style fins?
I have an older board that's a bit of a favourite and the only fins I can find for it are those crappy plastic moulded ones that flex too much when loaded. I would like to try a set of stiffer fins. The side ones are 3 1/2 inches deep (90mm) and the centre 4 1/4 inches (110mm). I want to try the same size and see how much of a difference there is.
I just bought one of these from Longboards Scarborough the other day, I take it that is something like what you mean, not sure what else they havehttp://www.surffcs.com/au/products/fins/fin_comparison.aspx?pid=514
Not much around anymore Zuke, True Ames have these with the right foil http://trueames.com/shop/surf-kayak-set-of-3
Shapers have these twins www.shapersfins.com/archives/portfolio/5-14-stealth which you could try with one of these www.shapersfins.com/archives/portfolio/4-5-stealth-s5 but it'd be a.lot of fin.
Other than that just hit up a long time shaper, they usually have old stock about the place.
Actually try this bloke www.hanaleifinsystems.com.au/pages/fins/center_fins.php Lance will make you whatever you're after and is really reasonably priced.
He made these for me earlier in the year and they are siiiick.
Heaps of drive but not at all tracky nor tight. About a hunjy for a hand foiled quad set if I recall correctly.
Thanks for the reply guys. Hopefully I can mix and match to get what I want. I really want to try the same sizes as I have now to see what difference a stiffer fin makes.
Smicko, I'm not overly technical with my boards and surfing like you and some others are so I'll give those weird looking fins a miss. I was hoping someone local had a box of old fins lying around that I could try/buy.
