After having scrolled through numerous forum topics all I can do is shake my head.
Now it it is time to name and shame some of you and hopefully you have a good hard look at yourself and question some of the stuff you post on this site.
When people ask where a break is ie rickswing asking about derrs why do people like LaurieP not only respond in a private email but also offer other advice of other places to check out? why would you do that? Are you someone who gets out of town for a wave to get there and then complain that it was crowded and crew were dropping in? Have you ever considered that that car with 5 guys in it that just pulled up is rickswing and his mates? or his mates mates?
Next,
Arthknob, has moved here 6 weeks ago and has the cheek to ask where to surf. Arthknob, go put some fuel in your car, open your eyes and go have a look.
We get people like big gill, wasyl and mjay gray giving arthknob a nice little run down on where to surf and when. We even get kitehard boasting about surfing with only 5 guys in the water. WHY?? your boasting is likely to to make your uncrowded surf a thing of the past.
What ever happened to the low key surfer? why is it that when ever people get great waves or uncrowded conditions they need to A) boast to everyone on this forum and B) take photo's and post them on this site with a nice liitle name of the spot
If no one has noticed Perth is currently experiencing a massive influx of East coast people who primarily work in the mining industry and with their work arrangements have time off during the week making the once uncrowded mid-week surf a thing of the past. Not only do these people now have more time to find less known places we help them by pointing them in the right direction.
Once again all I can do is shake my head and wonder why?
Yeah, you are right. Let's draw a line in the sand - right here, right now.
Come on Perth - wake up to yourself!!!!!
From now on, nobody is allowed to surf at any of the good spots in WA unless:
1. They are local.
2. They have already surfed there before.
3. They only found the spots by accident and didn't ask anyone where they were.
Thanks surfingman for correcting the error of my ways. I don't know what came over me, for while there I really seemed to have forgotten myself and wasn't true to the spirit of surfing.
Hmmm. I wonder if we need to make it retrospective? I seem to remember it was pretty good back in the 80s when I was a kid. Maybe no-one should be allowed to surf unless they did it prior to 1989?
Hey - lets campaign for some sort of licensing or accreditation system. How about, you can't surf at good spot X until you have done your time. Ie x years at mediocre spot a, then better spot b. Once you have proved yourself worthy then good spot x.
Boy I am on a roll now. Lets make the system self-funding. Let's make people pay to surf. Let's set it really high - that should keep the riff-raff out. Damn that wont work - those pesky out of towners stealing our high paying mining jobs would be able to afford it.
Hmm. Maybe a "surf break of origin" requirement.
I think you are on to something here surfingman. The way you put it is quite simple really -
Keep the good surf spots good by not letting people surf them. Wow. They say the simple solutions are usually the most elegant. Or is it the other way around?
Good waves mate - don't let the turkeys get you down.
LaurieP you saying you would rather come over the hill and see more cars parked up at your favourite surf spot? if your answer is no then you are your own worst enemy
Once there is too many ppl in the take off spot fun turns into frustration, the lineup dissapears and crew drop in
I didn't realise there were many secret spots left near Perth. Thats why I moved away to better surfing grounds. It is nice to get a few hints from mates to discover new palces.
Exploration is half the fun though. Anywhere around Perth you can just follow all the other cars.
Look, I don't think its unreasonable to tell one guy who hasn't had the luxury of living here all his life so as to find the spots himself about a not-very-secret spot.
As to Lancelin, there is plenty of room there for all and I had no qualms about posting that publically.
Cheers.
Wow I've lived in Perth a long time and I ain't seen any good surf spots anywhere..........
Best head off down south to margs surfing perth is like saying you want to go for a swim and playing in a ankle deep puddle of rain water.........
I never understood the attraction apart from fitness of paddling around all day for 4 foot waves, but they do.
i agree perths waves are poor quality 90% of the time..
captain bob.. i have the same philosophy, i like showing actual mates new places and vice versa thru word of mouth
btw never ever seen a 4ft wave in perth before
whos this surfingman think that he is, 1 post and he talks like he ones the place, bit of respect here mate eva heard of helping another brother out??? aye take it easy bud you must be one of them real hothead locals in the water arnt ya
If you havent seen a 4ft wave in perth,i dont think you,ve been surfin very long.been surfin mainly scarb to trigg stretch 24 yrs,and seen some great days.admittedly not that often. If you bag the place so much, you could move!By the way, secret spots in Perth...are you kidding, like every city has a spot x...maroubra,gold coast, bells, etc, anyone who knows this country knows the spots
I recon surfingman surfs a mal & is a danger to all in the line up (like the guy who neerly killed me @ Secret Harbour the other day) as he cant surf so he has to write crap like this to make himself feel better, he needs to pull his head out of his arse and have a good hard look @ himself. Surfing with crowds makes you a better surfer.
By the way Secret Harbour is not a secret or a harbour!!
Maybe there is a little truth in what surfingman says, we have a finite quantity of waves, the population is increasing and so are the the crowds in the line up Its not hard to agree about low key surfers, why not enjoy it for what it is without over -exposing, posting photo's and directions etc. It disappoints me that fello surfers promote surfcams and surf reports and the exploitation of surfing and for what! money, to boost thier egos? just look at wannasurf and see people tripping over themselves to out as many surfspots as they can - why would you do that?
Dont get me started on surfmags and corporate surfing.
Localism sucks but so does the opposite.
Its all got to do with the "INFORMATION AGE"....there is soooo much info out there that everyone is an expert on everything
And there are sooo much everyone's out there that are everything on info
Surferman does have a point. Never name a spot. Go find it yourself, whether YOU think it can handle the extra crowd or not (north, south, off shore) other people may not agree with you.
Jacki, the fact that u dont even have a picture up says a lot!! The fact that I dont drop in on people with a 8ft mal or at all makes me a better surfer, if thats all u have , weak............
greenroom.. u might be doing the pooman.. least ur hand isnt on your crotch as well like barbs..hmm fetishes?
Hehehe well actually this photo was taken as Ive just finished pig doggin down a little screamer
You can see my hand has just left the rail grab. Im actually in the middle of standing up as Ive seen the wave close out infront of me
As for grabbing my crotch... I leave that business to my wife
