Hi All,

After a very long time out of the water I have decided I would like to get back into water sports. My back ground is mainly dingy and ocean liner sailing, surfing and a bit of white water as well.

I have decided to get into wave skiing (hence why I'm posting in the surfing section cause you don't have a wave ski section) so I have gone an ordered a kayak that will give m the best of both world. It's a sit type so I can wave ski and white water with the same craft.

No unfortunately I have a wife that watches far to much news and as a result she has made m promise to by a SharkSheild before I hit the waves. I have no problem with this (hell it couldn't hurt) BUT I have been researching the SS7 and it says that Kayakers should feed it through a scupper hole and sit the unit on the deck............... Ok so if I come unstuck (and that's a matter of when not if!) then the Kayak is protected and I'm now bait fish.

So this is the advice part - Has anyone got an SS7? and can anyone tell me how far down the antenna the first electrode is. I ask because I was thinking that I could wear it like a diver (on my ankle) and hang the antenna over the side. I am using a sallow draft sit on Kayak so if I can do this then I will stay protected when I end up swimming, but this will depend on how far down the antenna the first electrode is. I hope I'm making sense

Anyway I look forward to seeing you all out on the waves and thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Cheers
Stewie

Around the ankle and put the aerial up your clacker and you'll be right.

And welcome aboard, everyone loves a goatboater, almost as much as those fkn cripples....

K..... I'm starting to see why there's no surf ski section.

Been so long that I had forgotten that certain classes of surfers think they own the ocean.

Point taken I'll move on.

i like goats better than sups and i even just bought a sup meaning i don't like myself. Seriously if need be have a shield on ankle and leave off untill u lose goat boat out in the middle of the ocean, i reckon your pretty safe other than that

remember dont wear SS down at trig point with else all the bikini babes will laugh at u.

No offence intended.

Seriously, asking for canoe advice on a shortboard forum... I suspected somebody taking the p!ss.

Maybe I'm a little sensitive because years ago when goatboats got really popular with the kooks I got cleaned up badly by an out of control one.

Said kooks would drive past miles of empty beach until they spotted a bunch of shortboarders and thats where they would go out. Paddling boats through surfers is poor form IMO.

Ohh FFS harden up princess it's called taking the piss

Dunno how many West Oz waves would be overly friendly to a goat boat sans fins though, it's not like we have friendly rolling pointbreaks.

Transits would be fun and the reef just south of the mouth at Moore River is another that is soft and rolls for a long way, needs a big swell though. Yalls main too, after all another carreering out of control watercraft with a paddle won't make much difference out there will it?

On the other hand I remember surfing Little Island a bit way back with a bloke on a proper ski that went off, used to regularly take off way deeper than everyone else and crank these at will through the bowl.

Fins are good.

Ok so looks like we got off on the wrong foot. Being new to this forum I didn't know how to take everyone and the first couple of post gave me the impression that I should not waste my time.

I didn't want to post it in the shortboard section. I was looking for a general surfing section and thought that I was posting there. I didn't realize till later that it was in the shortboard section and that there isn't a general surfing section (seems to be some sections missing from this forum :( ). So no I was not taking the p!ss. I might just restrict my posting to the general chat section from now on, being as Kayakers do not have a section.

I'm sorry to hear about your incident with a "goatboater" but I assure you that I have a little few more brain cells than that and I'm not stupid enough to put myself in that kind of situation. I may not of been in the water for the last 10 years or so but I have a long history on the water. As I said in my first post I use to race yachts so I have a very profound respect for the water.

On top of that, I'm not a bi fan of crowds. I am more likely to find a nice quiet, deserted beach and hit some waves (most likely why the missus wants me to use a shark shield). I agree that paddling through a large group of surfers or swimmers would be poor form. By the way what is a kook?

Smiko thanks for the vids. My boat is on order at the moment and both vids have made me a bit impatient (well more than I already was anyway lol)

Anyway I hope we can just move forward from here.

Cheers
Stewie
