Haven't seen much of it, but plenty of swell on way supposedly. Will be nice change to city beach breaks. I'm tipping Florence Medina or Slater
Not Kolohe Andino
He destroyed his board with his fist after he lost his heat
Snapped the top half of his board off after his little temper tantrum
He must be feeling the pressure
kerrsy was riping on kellys board when he lent it to him. but he has a suspected grade 2 tear in his ankle so every round is a bonus for him.
Medina has the barrel of the event so far. it was insane how deep he was. you couldnt see him from the water angle.
john john, kelly and parko are looking good.
i have owen wright as my wildcard favourite though
I'm tipping Freddie P as a dark horse.
Regular footers don't win at cloudbreak, apart from Kelly and AI, but you could never class those two as regular...
All the above worthy mentions and hopefully parko but you can never count out fanning in fiji, he always posts good results there. Be good to see Parko take it out and get a nice little lead to build on in the back half of the year.
comp on hold at moment - but if you watch the live feed there are some monsters coming through. Game on!!!!!!!!!!!
It was onshore when they called it off, 2pm local time, the wind swung around to offshore after this and they can't call it back on once it's called of for the day.
Was some great waves anyway. Better watching it with more than 2 guys in the water.
Back on today, but at restaurants.
sat and watched in awe after they called off comp. the wind went back off telecast on fuel went for ages after with some 20foot plus faces(and throwing asfar) low tide and with 25 out charging. siiiiiiiick barrels it was awesome ,i know why cloud break is so rated
I would assume they called the event off because the asp dont want the liability of forcing surfers out in oversize surf and dealing with injuries/deaths. With the recent deaths at the lifesaving nationals, maybe they should take a leaf out of the asp's book. The guy's on tour get paid to deal with heavy situations, 14-15yr old kids dont. Just saying[}:)]
By the way, Parko for the win
^^^
No..
They called it off cause the surf was average, no other reason. The surferes voted to stop it not the ASP. Imo the made the right decision at the time, and Then it got better and they can't restart it after they have called it off for the day.. Simple..
The liability thing isn't even an issue.
I don't care who wins now so long as it isn't Adriano de Souza, the dirty greedy tactics he was using need to be stamped out. He is now the collingwood of the asp now IMO . Owen wright is going to be hard to beat
I was a bit dissapointed to see the event cancelled yesterday, it could have been one of the greatest days of competition ever.
It was even worse to see how few of the top pro's were willing to give it a go.
A few of those brasilian boys could have silenced all their critics by paddling into a couple, and some of the others could have cemented their reps as all round surfers, Full props to Kerzy, Parko, Fanning and the Hobgoods.
Brings me back to the 86 Billabong pro, when it transfered to 20 - 25 ft Wiamea. Two guys didn't paddle out, Gary Green and Bryce Ellis, and it virtually finished their careers on the spot.
Years later in an interview Gary Green had a bit of remorse that he didn't paddle out, simply because he realised what it meant, and what he missed out on that day.
