Planning a trip to mentawais next year and just wondering is there any difference between the board you would ride normally compared to a board you would ride in indo
My indo boards are usually a few inches longer than what I surf here and tend to have a rounder tail.
longboarders are becoming a bit of a pest with their ability to catch waves outback. Numbers at my local have quadripled in last few years. I wont even mention those guys who stad up and flap a paddle grrrr..... Def take your home faves plus a semi gun ( no not to shoot longboarders and SUPs)
take as many as you can fit in a bag..nothing sucks more than running out of boards on a surfing holiday......at least have a one gun along as well...generally you don't need to worry about generating speed on the waves over there , more about controlling it!
my shortest board is 6'4 (90+kgs)
the last time i took the 6'4 , 2 x 6'6, 1 x 6'8, and a 7'0 and used them all ....!
+ 1
Also the waves are so much cleaner, as a general rule, when the size is on (compared to the east coast anyway) with no-where near as much water moving - so you do not need as much volume as you do over here to get in to them.
Round / pin tails are the go!
this is my indo gun - which just happens to be for sale in the buy and sell section (sorry about the shameless promotion )
^^^^^^
It is 7'2" x 19 1/4" x 2 1/2".
Was perfect indo gun for me and at the time I was about 90kg and am 6 foot 2 inches tall (I have now blown out to 97 kg but thats a different story - 2 kids will do it ).
I will let it go for $200 if anyone interested (50 bucks off from buy and sell section price). I rode it in G-land about as big as it gets back in the day and it flew,...so fast.
I don't have opportunity to surf indo any more so I have no use for it now.
yeah I agree. I went through a period of mid channels many moons ago and they just hated any chop what so ever. The boards with tail channels that I have used over the yrs have only liked it when its nice n smooth. My big board doesn't have them for that reason. If I lived over there / visited more often I would love to have one in the quiver.
think...small... medium...large one of each (because the overweight slug is vicious nowdays) been going to indo since 1975...never been without a gun...ride em sometimes...some times bring em home unused...but when I use them I allways get guys saying "I wish I had your board today"...you save for months to go.... spend big money, and can sit on the boat and say to yourself...f#*k..Ive bought knifes to a gunfight...I left this one in Bali so I dont have to carry it next time
cheers for the info. got two good boards, ones only a few months old. Riding a 6'0,2 1/4,18' & 6'2,19,2 1/4 with channels. But hereing your info i just might have to get myself a newy. Thanks for previous posts too regarding new boards for the new year
