Ankle didn't hurt for about 24 hours after the storm surfing (cold water) Now 48 hrs later its swollen so much the chemist said them compression thingies wouldn't fit. (she measured my ankle and told me to admit myself to emergency)
Whats the prognosis fellas how long?
Point is a fracture sprain or break.
I can put full load on the foot but if i twist it ,i m in the fetal position crying like a baby.

I cant recall injuring it while i was sailing why does it hurt so much now???

I'd be inclined to go with strain if you can apply full load but only hurts when twisting.

Theres alot going on with an ankle people its a verry coples part of the body. !!! Depending on the severity of the injuiry. There seems to be a fine line between a fracture and a sprain. As stated before if in doubt consult a doctor.Rice is on the money along with a compression bandage and rest ! so well-done fellas.

The solution, of course, is to be sure any ankle sprain you might incur heals properly so that the ligaments do not stretch. a minor sprain can initially be treated with RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation) -- rest, ice and elevate your ankle for several days, and compress it with an ACE bandage for a week or longer.

Applying a anle compression bandage..:

Avoiding Future Sprains

Strength and support are critical to avoiding future sprains. Once the acute stage of a sprain is over, Dr. Title says to strengthen the muscles around your ankle by using a stationary bike (cycling is good for the ankles)

i tweaked my ankle playing soccer bout 10 years ago and then tweaked at work about 4 years ago and it still has that tight feeling.... never tweaked it windsurfing except for one nasty endo forward, was perfect till i landed and the board sunk toeside rail first.... oowww

sounds like inflamed ligaments... in all seriousness tho you really gotta let it rest up a little

Busta - I'll raise you one...
(I've posted this before, so just recycling from my own gallery in seabreeze)

I did my ankle playing in an aussie-rules GF about 10 years ago (which we won as you can see) Of course for the 2 days after I was walking around on it (pub-crawls & a bit pizzled) and didn't give it time to rest, or ice it. 2 months later it still wasn't great, so I went to see a specialist about surgery - he basically told me that it was ligaments and that surgery would be the last option. I was told to give it another 3 months (apparently they can take around 6 months to heal properly).

The ankle healed and apart from the rare but occasional roll & crunch (which happened pre-injury) it's fine.

Just give it some rest (a few weeks) & strap it over summer if you're doing anything on it. Icing it of an evening isn't a bad idea either.
