Of course it also begs the questions

(1) is it art? School kids can make helium filled shapes. I would say it is not art.

(2) even if it is art, how much did it cost the taxpayer (or City of Perth ratepayers)

(3) if it cost ordinary people money, can they demand their money back as a dope made something that can blow away, despite the fact he was commissioned to make it for a windy city and situate it in a massive park next to the river (duh!)

the article said it cost the festival of Perth hundreds of thousands of dollars!

I was planning to go down and have a look at it but it's not there anymore...

Hundreds of thousands?

again, my whine in another thread about massive amounts of money funding artyfarty rubbish that only 1% of the population appreciate........... when we need flood relief, hospitals, aircon for classrooms in 40deg heat....... need I go on.

And the hundreds of thousands of bucks blew away.

If private enterprise ran like Govt (incl local Govt) they'd last 5 minutes.

Slightly off-topic, but...

A local councillor went on record recently stating that there should be changes in council funding. One of the comments was to scrap the funding to 'Little Nippers' (surf lifesaving lessons for kids teaching them safety in the surf, basic rescue skills, surfing, fitness, teamwork etc.) and put that funding (about $10k per year) into a...wait-for-it...

...setting up a local snake charming exhibition!!! WTF is with that!?!

If it had as much $ thrown at it as sports your average artist could possibly make a decent living.

Not so amusing is that the artists that pull in the biggest dollars are the dead ones.

Yeah - risk of snake bite is 52.234% greater to young kids when living in inland areas than drowning in the surf. Jeez, get ya edjacashun (sic) priorities right!

But lots of inland kids drown in dams, more than die of snake bite. And when you get bitten by a snake your only hope of survival is having the good fortune of being with company and being close to medical help.
