You're referring to his lack of board shorts over wetty, yes?
Definitely impressive.
And his kiting was impressive too.!

A roundhouse cutback whilst getting pulled backwards down the face is what it is.

but that's not a roundhouse cutback as you need to complete the rest of the 180 snap for it to be a roundhouse cutback.

still it's impressive stuff.

It looks to me like this guy has diched the Jet Ski for a kite. He only even toughes the bar when he is "Towing in" to the wave

Do you think you could do that maneuver whilst letting go of the boom?

Serious question??

You could not better have articulated what an old surfie like me was looking to do with kiting , Thank You.

Learning to ride on flat water, then to ride switch side opened up boosting, flat water free/wake/ what ever style, I still don't understand all the differences.

I do know that sending the kite, having my 105kg mass instantaneously, and potentially violently, yanked out of the water on 4 thin lines, looking down on the world and S#!tting myself about my apparent altitude, does makes my heart race.

Then, when it's on, I hit the surf, and I can see what this guy is doing, it's my vision, goofy footed.

Love the guys work big time.

Sorry, but isn't this just surfing (and fairly poor surfing on the basis that he has what amounts to a toe-in surf board on 5 foot waves). Is it really that amazing... irrespective of whether a windsurfer could or couldn't do this?

btw, the only reason I'm responding with a post which sounds negative is that I thought I was going to see something cool - maybe it is and I have no appreciation for what you can/can't do on a kite.

Poor surfing?????? You must be Kelly Slater.
Most avaerage surfers would be stoked if they could surf like that.

That's kind of the point I was making. He's better than most 'average' surfers...

Totally agree lotofwind.

IMO, he wouldn't surf the wave as well without the kite. So the kite can raise a surfer to another level, especially if an aggressive attitude is added to the mix.

Nice Vid!

^^În that case,
no one give Kelly Slater a kite.
He is enough of a freak as it is.

Yeah the guy is definitly a power/agressive rider.
Like you said, the kite is probly pushing him harder.
Would be really interesting to watch him just surfing.

A little clip just to illustrate the bit that he's missing to complete the move.

If he was riding unhooked with a leash on his chickenloop, he might be able to complete it and pull the bar back down with his leash?

Yep, lucky surfer, D'bah uncrowded (perhaps allowed a few by the crew cause of her ' fine 'arse).

Relevance to kiters doing roundhouse cutbacks?.. don't see it...

When he does the cutback he gets dragged out of it backwards. If he unhooked, when he let go of the bar he would get the extra distance of the elasticated leash to be able to get back closer to the pocket and complete an S-turn.
