Hi Everyone,

I accidentally dropped my friend's older board the other day and now it has a hole in it After I finished swearing at myself, I took a picture and now I need to figure out the best way to fix it.

He hasn't sailed it in 6 years, so I don't need a fix for optimal performance. I just need the best way to patch up the hole. Can I epoxy it?

It looks bigger than it is in the picture. The crossbar on the "T" is about 1.9 cm and the long part of the "T" is about 2.5 cm. The hole is on the side of the board, right in the crease there. Am I totally screwed?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

What's the board?

Given the seam I guess it has an ASA skin (repairable) but if it is polyethylene (like the old WS One Design etc) it is too hard.

I don't like the look of that damage, it's allmost what you'd expect from hollow metal?
As Mark says, everything is "safe" with epoxy, but it doesn't stick real well to older plastics. It won't hrt to try it and see.

That's pretty weird looking - it does look hollow.

If the board is as old as it looks then you can probably replace it for about $50!

Thank you!

I was very confused when I looked inside the hole, because it did look hollow and then I noticed there is some stuff on the inside. Not sure what it is. It looks kind of like shiny white crunchy stuff. Fiberglass?

The board is pretty old. I didn't find out what kind it is. I think it said "FS Fun Connection" on it or something.

Thanks for the help. I think I will try to seal it with epoxy if that's what he wants to do.

Just got off the phone with my local West Marine guy and he said the Flex 650 would be best. It's a pre-thickened epoxy liquid that should stick to everything, including injected plastics.

I'm assuming the board is a foam core board with plastic around the outside.

Thanks for the help!
