I was planning my next holiday and was thinking I wanna head somewhere with a tropical lagoon that gets great wind, clear water, good fishing and cheap living.
So I thought Id start this thread off with a cracker of a spot I found on an island just off of Bali.
The lagoon averages 1 metre - 2 metres deep
Has crystal clear blue water in which small schools of barra and small reef sharks can occasionally be seen.
Its approx 3 km in length by 1 km wide and has 3 main surf spots (if you wanna wave sail as well) playgrounds, lacerations and shipwrecks.
accomodation is cheap as chips with the best deals negotiated when you reach the island by ferry. we rented a 1 bedroom unit (modern) for $5 US a night and included brekky.
The island is located off the southern peninsula of bali and is called Nusa Lembongan.
For the trade winds to be onshore and uniterrupted by land the best season is any time between November to March (wet season) if your into your wave sailing then the offshores come in the dry season from the SE.
I was kiting this place, but will head back one day with windsurf kit.
ps. no need to stay at the resorts, theres plenty of accomodation.
Fairly hard to beat Noumea and its Lagoon ( worlds biggest ) . Ile de Pin also is an amazing place.
Only drawback is its fairly costly .
Lord Howe Island lagoon a mere hour & 45 minutes away from Sydney with a JP/NP hire shed right on the beach ticks all the boxes.
When it comes to Lagoons its unlikely any are as popular for windsurfing as Narrabeen Lake. Its not known as Lake Dangerous for nothing! Don't let the lake name mislead you. It is a lagoon however possibly more brown than blue.
Top holiday destination. There is a caravan park on the entrance too.
Georgios bay-Naxos and Lac bay-Bonaire
both are huge waist deep ,sandy bottom lagoons with loads of wind-freestyle and gybe heaven.
You should check out Boracay in the Philipenes too. Trade winds blow onto Bulabog beach from December to April. Mornings are the best time to get out.
There's kitesurf and windsurf heaven when wind blows. The lagoon is 1 to 2m deep and crystal clear. It stretches over 3km north to south I seem to remember.
Base yourself at Bulabog at Reef Retreat with Matt n his wife. The w'surf centre is directly infront of their place.

I was there in 2008, had a great 10 day trip. the only downside was that the wind blew stronger in the mornings and I had a hang-over almost every day. Across the island is White Sand Beach. That's the party beach. Like Bangkok-by-sea.
it is a cheap island but expensive to fly too. Worth the trip I reckon though. ATMs on the island so money withdrawal no issues.
I would guess that right now with all the LA NINA weather going on that the trades are not at their strongest, but do some checking around.
If you go in May to July, the strong winds blow onto White Sand Beach. So you stay that side instead (its the quiet end of the season too).
best time for lord Howe is our winter - it is not trade winds based. Do a check on the forums for Lord howe and you will find a fair bit of info about the place. Otherwise check out our website - www.lordhowewindsports.com.au. All hire rates etc are there. There is a fortnight trip planned for August this year.
Cheers.
15-20 knots easterly for the next week

The official language is English, all official documents are written in French, and the locals speak Creole
Hard to beat dahab as an awesome windsurf holiday destination. All the kit you would ever want to try, flat water sailing and bump and jump stuff once you realize you are learning really fast by sailing every day.
