Just got this email from my mate up the road in Townsville,
Nigel, I hope you don't mind me sharing this but sounds like you need some words of encouragement. Or something that might put a lighter side to your near death experiences.
I just got off the water and my heart is still thumping saw a Dugong so I went up behind it thinking cool, then I discovered that it had lumpy ridges on it's back, legs and a long tail,at this stage I froze and fell off but was back on the board in an instant watching the Fu#ka heading for me,my heart is thumping my arms shaking and my mind is doing cartwheels by this time.Never in my life have I thought I was a gonner as much a I did today,I rang up the EPA and they are going to send someone out for a look. All this happened on the day when I woke up and realised how much this sport means to me,now what?
Cheers from a very frightened little chap up in Townsville.
Who said windsurfing isn't an 'extreme' sport
Maybe the croc wanted you to teach it the ropes?
Or think of it like, imaging someone windsurfing up to you and delivering you food, now that's an idea!
When i saw thise post, i thought it was about those bloody sandals... CROCS!
they are the UGLYEST shoes EVER!
Guess we dont really get Crocidiallians here in melbourne
Crocs are great. Use them in summer when going windsurfing. Just make you footstraps a bit bigger and the crocs make a streamless transition from the beach to board.
Back to the story, I am willing to put up with cooler winters so I don't have to worry about crocodiles.
Keeps you on your toes, literally,
the pro fisho's pulled a 14 foot tiger of my local front beach/favorite sailng spot. About a month ago.
I just recently got sent a set of pics taken in Africa somewhere of a big mother croc.. when they skinned and gutted it, they had nearly enough semi-digested body parts from it's gut to make an entire person. I'd post the pics here, but they might be a little close to the boundaries of what Laurie would consider suitable for the wider audience.
Pretty gory stuff. I'm quite happy not to have any nasties like that around here!
Hi nigel,
i got to pallarenda few minutes after you left. When I finished rigging my stuff two guys came and told me about this windsurfer that was freaking out because he had just saw a croc. I did not know it was you...
Anyway I got in and sail straight towards the kite surfers (if there is a croc around its always good to divide the probabilities between all...). I did not see any croc, but one of the kitsurfer instructors told me that it is common to have crocs coming to pallarenda, especially during winter. Which is new to me.
Anyway I am glad nothing happen. Hope to see you again in pallarenda...
Until then
miguel
Thats pretty hard core. I guess we get used to knowing sharks are around in the ocean when you are sailing but crocs are another thing altogether.
Regarding the shoe wearing version of Crocs, hunt them down and kill them!!![}:)]
Worlds worst fashion accessory, nothing beats a pair of $3.95 double plug black thongs from Best and Less.
Hey Miguel, good to see you back and sorry I did not see you on friday.Remember your board is in my shed so let me know if you want to come around and get it.I am thinking of Bowen on wed thurs or friday, will probably go down for 3 days if the wind kicks in.
Cheers Nigel
Give me sharks any day!!
I'd rather have a bite taken out of me than be dragged underwater and drowned in the jaws of some overgrown gecko...
