I have an "Arrows" carbon boon that needs a new front end.
I wouldn't mind butchering my old aluminium boom and us the front end, but the angle seems different.
Anyone does these sort of repairs in Perth?
obelix, what is wrong with it? Something broken in the plastic, or the carbon?
I have a similar old Arrows boom (carbon 225-275) with a broken arm, so let me know if you need any plastic parts.
cheers
james
is your rope too thick maybe? can you post a picture showing the area that is causing you problems?
PM me your details if you want me to mail the part to you.
james
That rope looks like it's from bunnings -- if so it's not the right stuff to use. It's also possible that the rope isn't threaded correctly on the clamp.
I've got some spare rope that's the right stuff if you want some, and can help you thread it the right way...
You up for a Pinaroo bash this weekend?
Ha ha yeah pinaroo bash and crash, you know what the chop is like
Here's a photo of my clamp showing where the rope comes out, it looks like you've got a hole in a similar spot to where the one on my clamp is.
Perhaps try changing where it threads?
Don't think it will work, as the rope gets wedged in front of the rope lock. The lock doesn't release the rope, but the tension is low, as the angle is reduced by 10mm of damage on each side.
1000 words - true. I'll put it in the car, and show it to you if we meet this weekend.
Maybe I just dont' understand
James F's offer of plastic parts seem your best option. You just need a new lever I think, and when you get one, don't clamp the boom on too tightly because the plastic obviously is too soft to take too much tension.
Obelix,
I have a spare Chinook front end that you could canibalise,
It has a small metal cleat instead of plastic.
Thanks Lao Shi. Much appreciated.
I'm currently organising the boom front end with James, as it's the same brand and the boom so it should fit easily. I'll see if I can replace the lever only.
Hopefuly that would be an easy fix.
Before I forget, the lever has a metal cleat, just that the plastic in front of the cleat is damaged and the rope sinks into the wedge. Also the other, non-cleat end is similarly damaged.
If James' part wouldn't work , I'll see how to fit an alternative bit so I appreciate your offer.
I'll also (likely) see Nebbian this weekend down at Pinnaroo's and see what he thinks.
Danijel, I will get the part on the way ASAP. Will be nice to get it out of my shed, and glad that it can be useful rather than chucking it in the bin.
cheers,
james
Thanks James.
Hope to return the favour one day.

One of the best sites. Practical, and with a great focus.
No wonder we spend so much time here.
