Calling all sailors, it looks like the planets have aligned and we are in for a few good day. I'll be hitting up Callala bay with a few other mates on Thursday, Friday and saturday for what might be the best bump and jump session of all time. The swell is due to peak and the winds look solid, My master plan is to have as many sailors show up and put on the best freeride show the south coast has seen. Let's get windsurfing back on the stage and show them what it's all about, I know it looks like rain but who cares...I'm sure we'll get a break and get some sailing in.
Who's in?
You know I don't like the cold , but I'm thinking about it.
Asked Alex if he wanted to go skiing or windsurfing with Jason.
He said, Jason,Jason,Jason and will Keith be there?
We will try for saturday
Ian and Keith-- awesome scores posted for the Gustbusters and who is our new and fast team member, will he be there?
Gunna hit up Windang tomorrow then when I remember I'm white and can't jump on Starboard I'll probs head down and check it out for thursday-friday..
Akim/Alex, It'll be good to catch up with you guys, can't wait to hear all about the holiday. Keith will be there and Sam and DrJ are also coming up from canberra.
Alas I have to work but if it hangs around for Saturday I'm keen to check it out. I sailed for 15 minutes this arvo at Towradgi, yep 15 minutes because I was that desperate haha. Sped home from work, rigged, on the water by 430, pretty much pitch black at 4:50, but got a few sweet few waves and a couple of ghetto slides :D
This looks like the reef giving 400 metres of protection in a southerly. So you launch just a bit to the north of the reef?
thats it ian theres only 2 entrances to the water take the second one , ill be there with jase on friday and sat hope to see you there and bring barny
Day 1-Callala Bay Expression session.
4 sailors braved the elements and turned up today.....Why, we don't really know???
We'll put it down to a scouting expedition, rainy southerlies blow big time! And not in a good way. We stood for a few hours watching the conditions and even talked seriously about rigging on at least 2 occasions, talk is all we did.
Fingers and toes are crossed for days 2 and 3...
Mmmm...beer!
Yes a scouting expedition, the place shows a lot of promise, possibly brilliant. Just needs a bit of wind.
And maybe sunshine.
Rain gone away wtf! Rain has been solid all day up here in the Gong and wind all over the place...surf HUGE.
Still keen to come down tomorrow but the forecast keeps getting worse and worse wind wise, although it sounds like it was much stronger down there than up here today. Can anyone give an early morning sitrep to see if it's worth the drive down? Jase? ^_^
What a day it was insane, it was more like sailing storm serge the anything else. Fully maxed out on a 4.7 and stuffed after about 4 runs, sooo unfit. The water state was totally confused and the swell had no idea what it wanted to do, never at any point did I feel in control or safe. We gave up pretty early but just in time as the rain came back, but it was good to get out.
The swell was pretty big today, a few times Sam sailed over the top of some in front of me and he completely vanished from sight. The forecast tomorrow looks best for the morning and dropping off around lunch time, the Bom claims 25-30 in the morning dropping to 20-25 around midday, I hope it's good..it always seems a bit stronger here then anywhere else, this could make the day quite good.
Anyways I hope to see a few of you guys tomorrow.
Still a bit wet this morning but I can see some blue sky out my window, it seems the sea has calmed down a little and the wind has backed off. Sam and myself are heading down and will be there about 10am, bring your 6's and 7's just incase it's a bit light. We've still got green arrows on seabreeze so it might be good, it does seem to funnel through a bit stronger then pt perpendicular is reporting.
See you there.
We won't be coming, just couldn't get organised, too many things happening and the days too short.
Hope you guys get a good session,we'll catch up soon.
Callala Bay - Day 3
That was more like it, wasn't the best as the rainy conditions killed the wind on more then one occasion. The wind was swinging from south through to west-south west, by the end of the session it had so much west in it that it was impossible for me to sail back and had to swim my kit in from about 150 meters out. A few came down to check it out but were not keen to sail, just Greg, myself and a young local boy on what looked to be a bombora hit the water. I was fully powered on a 6.2 and loving the conditions, the sea had calmed down a lot since yesterday. Lots of good ramps and a pack of dolphins made for a good day before the wind died to the point that my board was sinking to my thighs, I thought I'd best give up before I got stuck with another big swim.
This is still a fun spot and I'll return and continue to try and talk people into coming, I just won't put a lot of faith in it if there's rain in the mix as it makes it too unpredictable. If it's dead south or even if it has a bit of east in it and as long as it's sunny, come and check out Callala Bay.
Guys, you should come along for the next trip of the windsurfing club of the university of new south wales.
They are great fun. We sometimes go to Jervis bay, but most of them occur in Nelsons bay.
Good winds !

Yes it was a good spot very up and down but heaps of potential I think. Jas is being far too kind when he said he and I were in the water, it was more him in the water and me on either the SUP or me trying not to drown. I think its on the must go back to list. Thanks for the trip J it was great to see you and the boys always a good fun time. We have a week in August in JB so looking forward to it.
Thanks Keef will be there 8-12 August. Daph wont tell me where yet, but I figure it will be somewhere in the greater JB area. I have done a bit of sailing up at Nelsons Bay dont right it off and its pretty good. Your right too Keef socially it pretty much rocks in the holidays but is gods waiting room at all other times.
Hi keef,
I will send you an email next time that we are going down in Jervis.
I have to admit that most of the time, the social part is taking a lot of energy, so that nobody is really ready to be on the water before 11am anyway. So nelson s bay is good too, especially in summer.
Cheers
