finally after 3wks. of no-go due to bad weather and fully booked i finally visited this place a speck of an island right in the middle of nowhere and after 2days and 6hrs. worth of walking in-and-out paths i finally bumped into Ulrich a swiss who sails and lives there part-time looking for the same thing for sailing and quiet relaxation and the paths we had to trek which was peacefully nice we finally decided on this location hidden from even the local teacher who knew most of the place
and is by coincidence beside 'ross' an aussie non-windsurfer but i still have to hear from the owner and his kin where we offered roughly 250aus$ since they have no use for it but rather need land for planting. The back of the beach is also part of the package but i opted to tell Juan the owner that me and Ulrich really don't need it maybe in the future. Another beachfront near the city but a little bit expensive and the flat offshore strip the drop-in local sailors and foreigners do their sailing during the season up to this and past this sandspit ..i haven't met the other 2 since it was off season but me and ulrich share the same-quiet, basic necessities, wifi for him and a retirement place later for me hopefully and enjoy sunset dinners like this
it is a nice idyllic place very simple..i went to the local police only 3 of them having coffee and asked what the latest crime was and can't remember but only a fight between 2 drunks during last year's fiesta and the 2 hombre's were from a different islandtheir main crop is cashew nuts..next to the police station was the Phil. Atmospheric geographical provincial station however a bit antiquated showed me windspeed graphs during the season from oct. to april and the mean ave. is 19kts. and ave. gusts 28 not so windy for some but good enough for me..the main town is walkable and meals are very inexpensive i spent an ave. of 3aus$ per day..lodging was 10aus$ a/c and cable but since i had no time to find where Ulrich was staying with only a fan i opted to check in immediately since i had only 2 days to survey the island..the place i chose and am being helped by the local high school teacher to contact the owners is 1km. northeast of the grassy airport..boat fare going there from Panay is 8aus$ a/c economy bunks where most of the foreign backpackers bound for Palawan use..from Manila take a plane to Iloilo and take Milagrosa or Montenegro lines they have their own websites or via Palawan..i was a bit apprehensive to leave things around like a celfone which i inadvertently did in front of the lodging house across the street to buy soda and get money inside the room and not one even bothered to try sit beside it and have a look..i guess am just paranoid from the more bustling citiesnice thing about it maybe L'fish is more familiar is that the proximity to the Tubattaha Reefs, Coron Islands and the smaller 25 islands that surround this place is accessible by big pumpboats..if ever you have a chance wineman i can accompany you the "roughneck" way though..and go thru paths like this one and soak in the chirping and solitude
Looks nice! When's the windy season?
Did you say you offered them $250 for a block of land on the beach??
yes wetty i offered that much for the beachfront which is shown on the 3rd pi****he islanders living are planting upland rice and to them there's no use for a beachOct. thru March usually is the season +/- 1month on start or finish...
Whats the deal for buying land over there? Is it an expensive process and what sort of land title do you get? If you want to build on it do you have to go through a local council or planning authority or do you just give the local mayor a couple of hundred dollars and do whatever you like?
Perhaps you can enquire into the half finished buildings.
It would be sweet to have a time share or something like that there. What are the windy months there?
fellas am just obsessed with this place so pardon the pics...till the owners are found remains to be seen and i just have to dream on and on and on...pic taken by ulrich the windsurfer yesterday before leaving for Manila as for me the slow boat back to Panayif we get this all you seabreezer's are free to come over subject to limited accomodations kiter's are welcome too we could always split the beach in half since it'll be onshore a bit so kiters at port windsurfers at starboard makes everyone happy
I reckon Jaybee could have a whole romantic fortnight there!
"Pack the Suzuki...dear"
Lookin' even better JP
Would you mind clearing a bit of ground so I can pitch a tent? It wouldn't rain much in the windy season, would it??
Hey JP
There has got to be a down side - nothing sounds that good. If it is though, count me in. even happy to pitch in to do some work to set some buildings up. Work in the morning - sail in the afternoon.
Salty i'd like to think there is no downside but if you really want to know the electricity pole is about 3kms. away..no water source yet..most of the islanders just dig an open pit hole bout 3mtrs. deep and hit water..i've tried it and not salty..i just have to think upsides for now and as i said your a seabreezer?! your in
Hey jp.............what a pity we didn't meetup when i was in the phils last.......i could have brought you up to speed on all the Aussie slang words
