Well I had an awesome start to my season today. I was going out for the second time and had just walked my formula gear into the water when one of those waves that double up came along and lifted me off my feet. Needless to say my boom dug straight into the sand, snapped put a nice fist size hole in the sail and then the wave proceeded to snap 5 of my battens. Well its back to the drawing board for me for a while ... I hope you all have better starts to your seasons

hang on are you saying you took your formula gear into the waves??, because dont you think that would have been a bit of a bad idea, or was it jsut a shore break that you needed to get through.

and i am also sorry about your loss(es)

Thats just the thing, I was going out at somers on Westernport bay and it was just a shore break.. I have no idea what happened I was walking my gear out past the shore break and lost concentration for a split second, next thing i know I've been lifted off my feet by some shore dumping wave and by gear hit the sand .. that was game over from there.

On the plus side today i went out and got a new boom and they threw in a free yes thats right free 11.7m rs3 sail so now all i need to do is buy a mast that will fit it and its back to windsurfing again :)

FormulaBoy, I propose you change you're name to GestaltII or something similar. Gestie is prone to doing similar stunts, just ask his board repairer

Where did you get the free sail from. That's a pretty cool thing to do! Nothing worse than busting your gear so needlessly but it's great if a shop can help you out of those situations. Credit to whoever it was!

SHQ on beach road sanderingham. I'm on some mailing list for this once a yr sale and they had this massive rs3 they couldn't get rid of so they said it was free if u bought a boom or mast that would fit it so i just made sure they had a boom there that would fit my 9m and their 11.7.

Hi Formula Boy , Do you race regularly ? where ? Maybe we could get together . I have a big one too ( sail ) . We could compare .
Seriously , it would be nice to race or sail with another Formula fello , as I appear to be alone at the moment .
Give me a yell . regards Martin

yes it's true, have done and also been involved with others doing similar things. most times was with said board repairer too! but you can't ask him cause he's tripping round brazil on his yearly wavesailing tour.

so i feel your pain formulaboy. i also know how much fun it is to use the big kit in the ocean.

it's very cool that you got a new sail out of it. nice!

Martin, I cant say that i race at all I'm more of a weekender, i leave most of my gear down at somers on westernport bay. I'm probably still a while away from being back on the water because even tho i have the new sail and a boom to fit I'm lacking the 580 mast to get the rig complete. As i have only been using a 9m until now I'm going to have to get used to a massive sail. when I'm back on the water ill send you a pm and maybe we could go out for a sail.

No Worries , Unfortunately I dont have anything to help you out mast wise . What masts do you have ? as I may be able to lend you a sail that fits your mast until you get sorted .

The only mast i have is a 490. Its alright I'd rather not borrow a sail because I don't want the hassles of if i perform another stupid stunt and somehow damage it. I'm sure ill be back up and sailing again in the next month or so besides its only good when the weather if fine :)
