Dave Ezzy has announced that he will be bringing out his new season sails half way through the Australian season, starting in 2010.

The 2010 sails will come out in January 2010 so half the Australian season (typically October - March) will be over before we can get our hands on the latest sails.

I hope he reconsiders.

Bugger

He always was one for doing things differently.

As a business decision though, is it the correct one? His main market is the northern hemisphere, right?

When do most other brands release their new kit?

Always thought it a bit strange that we get the next years kit 3/4's of the way through this year.

As most of the people want their new kit at the beginning of the season could be a comercial bomb for them, only time will tell

technology is moving ahead so fast that you might as well throw away any sail more than 4 months old !!! Gotta get a new sail because last year they didnt know how the wind works ??? whoops, rampant cynacisim....sorry.

Wow 2010 sails coming out in 2010!

About time some manufactor's caught up with with real time.

This is the way it should be, I don't need the lastest and greatest so it not an issue for me.
Also means we should have some good closeouts for christmas!

Down side - Aussie importers may suffer?

Busniess wise makes sense as by far the majority of his market is in the northern hemisphere.

To say his turning his back on OZ his a little harsh I feel.

What more could you want?

It's a bit of a business problem when you build such durable sails as Ezzys. So how do you get your customers to spend more money with you? Improve the design (or at least change it ) frequently.

Bottom line, if he sells more sails and this is a move in that direction, the prices should stay lowish.

For those who buy new gear every year this is indeed important. I mean how else would others know your on the latest.
Why change your design every year anyway if its good. Joe average can't tell the difference anyhows. maybe the elite sailors can, the rest is just marketing hype that contribute to the spiraling costs. Claimed Quantem leaps year after year and people swallow this!

BTW this is the same path Exocet has taken, that is to keep its design current for two or more seasons, for all but their race boards.

I thought most new kit was released mid year to coincide with the European/ North American summer?

Well really this is not so bad ...........

I HAVE ALWAYS believed changing all your kit at the begining of the season is dodgey..... just for the fact at the start of the season you ve only SAILED A FEW STORMIES but havent really dialed your new gear in. In my case,,, up da road to ride pumping 8--- 12 foot spring swells and the start of the seabreezes.

Last thing you need is tissues paper and tears in the desert.

i always use the gear from the season before ..........then your dialed. No fken around.

Once summer is in full swing and your lazing kicking back its FLAT and windy .... get new ones,,,,, THAT get you motivated for the end of the season .... dial them in and your ready for winter and the next season .

Good point.

I was bored when I posted this so prolly tried to be a bit more controversial than was necessary. I agree with Davmen, it would make it a lot easier if they didn't change the designs every year.
