I started looking - then just bought a Mac - expensive option I know but I was in the market for a new laptop anyway and i-Movie makes life so easy for simple editing of H.264 which both my go-pro and handheld use...

How was Sandy Point?

I bought Pinnacle Studio HD 6 months ago - and can say, after working with Adobe Premier Pro a few year back - Studio sucked....

Recommend buying for reasonably good effects, and reasonable power in editing - Adobe Premier / Photoshop Elements combo.... I regret not doing so.....

I have Adobe Premiere Elements which tends locks up frequently killing any unsaved work, I found a package called AVS video editor which does a pretty good job, it's not free but cheap and is easy to use but cannot get the output quality of Adobe

Not sure about the free stuff but Vegas Movie Studio is pretty good. Fairly decently priced too and there's a 30 day demo available, no limitations as far as I know.

31.6 knots is pretty respectable for a wave board with a wave sail...

Regarding movie editing Vegas Pro is a really good and easy to use program.

But not so good for the edit playback as MP4 isn't the best movie format, but output quality is as good as you will get. As far as any other movie platform of any editing needs vegas is excellent.

I use Roxio Studio 2010, not a bad program but my pc just runs it, the program covers everything from audio editing, mp3 , green screen etc, the 2011 version can do 3D if you have one of the new 3D cameras.

"Mpeg Stream Clip" can be used to trim the clips down and keep just the useful sections, without re compressing the footage and losing any image quality

www.squared5.com/

I edit the gopro footage natively in Premiere cs5 and it's smooth as butter even on an older computer

If you own an NVidia GPU with at least 768mb of onboard memory, and are using CS5, this link may be of interest to you.

I bought a cheap NVidia GTS 250 for $125 and it dramatically improves the realtime playback performance of the Cuda supported transitions, colour corrections and FX in premiere CS5

Actually adobe design premium cs5 on one of the work pcs. Which adobe program do you use? Flash or another one

A Good GPU is def worth the investment. When it comes to video editing, GPU power, memory, CPU power are worth the investment.

Good cheap setup is like good cheap wine.... doesn't exist...

unless of course your editing is focused on simple cuts, basic timeline construction.... basic objects... then you can get away with low end setup and be happy.

it's just Premiere Pro CS5

Is there any chance you are associated with TAFE or some of the Uni's? You might be entitled to a home license for $95 which gives you the full master suite. The limitations are that your license is only valid while you are employed by the TAFE / Uni and must be removed if you leave, and you can't use it for personal commercial purposes.

I doubt they'd have issues with you using it to edit personal youtube type stuff that doesn't earn you any income

Thanks for feedback. Got files converted. Learnt I made some camera errors when it was on and not. Missed footage I hoped I had got. Pissed I missed my great mate make his first 4 carve gybes on his new board. Missed my closer vulcans but put in my poor attempts so as to not cover up mistakes. Anyway hoping for some better bay or wave conditions next week. Here's a quick edit.
