It had to turn into a contest dinit, and yes my stupid post out of boredom could have bin interpreted that way Me and my boredom

Anyway, I love and admire surfing, one of my regrets in life is I neva got good at surfing (sum would say I neva got good at wsurfing either ) How good would it be to surf like Kelly Slater

My point is Windsurfing although very spectacular to watch in the waves, is now in Australia, and probably most of the world just become "Invisible", some of the aerials you see coming out of Maui, The canary Islands, WA, South Africa just take ya breath away........ But no-one gives a ......... its just become invisible!

I'm not sure I even care too much as I'm enjoying wsurfing more than I ever have in nearly 30yrs of it............ Just seemed strange to me, the commentators "Goin Orf" at kelly when I see more spectacular stuff at my local by wsurfers.... Bemused by it all.....

But letz get back to making it a contest, & making arses of ourselves, coz its much more fun......Windsurfing is 17 to the power of 11 times better than Surfing (and for those of u not familiar with math its a big number)

Flip side is we are proud to do something, rather than grow dreads and wear a Billabong hoodie to try and look the part. There are a sh!tload of pretenders who claim to surf.

Bintang singlets have officially overtaken the Billabong hoodie over here on the east coast.

The windsurfing boom is a handrail for poleys,
a mobility handrail so poleys can cling onto something when they get unwetted.
The boom offers resistance, prevents falling, aids balance, provides support.
The boom is the zimmer frame in surfing.
lol.

Have you seen the news and hype over Kelly Slater Aerials at Bells? And yes for a surfer they are Amazing, (This is not about bagging surfing or Kelly, but about the invisability of windsurfing)

I mean FFS has the ave news reporter seen Aerials in Wavesailing by windsurfers, make that hyped up news stuff look lame, but I suppose wsurf aint cool anymore, and all those amazing aerials on windsurfers either goes unreported or unnoticed Oh well doesnt stop us appreciating and enjoying

I admire surfers just for getting out on a decent wave and risking life and limb but I gotta say, actually watching it on tv falls into the same category as watching football or cricket for me, "oh look, theyre all chasing that ball around and kicking it" "oh look he's swooping up n down that wave" yawn!

I think the only reason surfings got the coverage that other sports don't, as others said is the massive sponsorship they get from "surf" based clothing companies.

Slaters spinny thing is the first time Ive gone whilst watching surfing (on the news)

We're all too busy doing fun stuff, where we don't have to drive 2hrs to get there, to worry about $100 a ticket to see a band we've never heard of

One thing the surfing movies never show is the 20 minute paddle out to catch the wave.
Too much effort and sitting around waiting for a few seconds of fun me thinks.

Ha the slave used to be a fanatical windsurfer, he got so old he had to give up his zimmer frame sport and take up something easier to do, now he's a number one GAYLORD, not long now and is only "sport" will be taunting people on forums from his nursing home bed.

truth is abouth ability to participate.10y.o. kid can ride to the beach, borrow a surfboard and he is surfing.Windsurfing cost how much just to get on the water?
If you are fortunate enought to have the $$$$ to do that you need a car to get you to the water with all the gear. Then you have to deal with conditions, not enought wind? wrong wind and hidding your new gear from your wife?etc.Windsuring is a baby in nappies compared to surfing. In 50 years the world may just be as astounded by windsurfing as they are by surfing.apples and oranges.
My 2x bobs worth, like it or not

So it's all about cost and availability of conditions?

Kiters hold onto control-bars, Markie. ^^^
Control-bars are little sticks less than 2 feet long which offer no resistance in the hands of the rider.
A floppy little stick that steers the kite only.
There's no hanging off the 'boom' and cheating with kiting.
You have to find balance without the aid of a mobility handrail.
lol.

it is the RIPCURL pro after all.

No one can match him still. 40 and getting better.

Poleys don't need strength to hang off a boom.
The harness lines are doing all the work by taking up the load.

^^^ Mr 'slave did you never unhook to gybe? Or wave ride? Or before getting up on the plane with a bit of a pump?

Unlike kiters always hooked in from beach to water and back again.

been surfing for 23 years and wavesailing for about the same

i can do airs on my wind sailing board pretty easily - there is nothing like the technical balance difficulty factor in a windsurfing air - due to the lift of the rig.

On a surf board - so much more technical - especially considering the no straps factor - i think i may have done 3 airs ever on a surfboard - because i fluked the timing

However the new school windsurfing aerial attack may just match it due to the rotation factor

So yes - that air of Kelly's in the final - pretty damn worthy in my book

Levi, Bouj, Marcilio and Koster - also frickin amazing
