I just bought a Isonic 107 and 127 and have been reading the starboard forums to get an idea about what fins to use.
They are more or less only writing about Deboichet fins, which im not going to buy.
I read elsewhere that Ben is using hurricane fins.
Can anyone tell me what fins Bjoern and Cyril are using?
Bjorn is also using some fins that Steve Alen developed for him in Poland - www.cafins.com
Not sure exactly what Benny is using; I think he has some hurricanes.
Cyril uses Debs and also some fins he developed himself which look pretty similar to Deboichet outlines. Apparently he made them too thin and couldn't get planing on them in Costa Brava on the lightwind days... haha.
I'm using some Birdi fins on mine which are an identical outline/flex to the hurricanes. 38-40cm on the 107 and a 46cm on the 127 in all conditions ;-)
Buying traditional Deboicht fins might be a difficult thing in the future. The rumours are that he relocated to Thailand and work for a commonly known board brand to develop fins together along with the slalom board line but this are just rumours.
I (180cm @ 78Kg) used the 107 from 2011 a couple of times, mostly with Sonntag-fins SL-P in 38 and 40 which are going quite well. These fins are very forgiving due to their soft design. When the wind got harder I switched to a Talon in 38cm. For the 7.9 ~ 7.1 I would defiantly recommend a powerful fin as board feels quite small. Top speed wise the SL-P might not be the fastest but overall it is a very good compromise.
I've never used the 2011 127L but I'm testing the 2012 now since a month with my Vapor 8.6 and my Hurricane SR2 in 45cm. In stronger winds a very nice combo but for less wind I ordered a bigger Hurricane fin in 47cm. Best speed with the 45cm and the 127L was ~55km/h in the open sea, quite promosing.
Our local pro's are going for Z-fins but as they cost ~50.000 Yen ($625) it is a too expensive toy for my.
