The view from my back deck on Friday, 1st December. Strong gully winds at Sellicks and the classic cloud bank over the Sellicks Hills. Does anyone know the name of this phenomena? Is it Katabatic?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katabatic_wind

I suspect it's called something else.

Yep, that describes it perfectly.

There's a regular katabatic at Vassiliki in Greece and when it's on you can see the clouds come up from the other side of the mountain and just vaporize over the top - they just start going upwards and dissapearing.

It was taken with a Canon 20d, joined together in panoramamaker in three pieces, then joined together in photoshop. Taken from my back deck after sailing fairly late in the day. Its called Burton's Bank. Its the cloud formation which you see over the Sellicks Hills when we get a gully wind at "The Funnel" at Sellicks Beach. It was a really good constant wind, a bit choppy but good. I used my 5 cranked right down but in the end it was a bit much. No waves unfortunately so I didn't take any piccys.

That deck looks like a good spot for an after sail drink Susie

Also a good spot for a spa, if you haven't already

Cheers
