Just wanted to know who knows a good place to purchase (second hand or new) a solid knee brace for ACL knee injury. Ive been very lucky to have borrowed one from a mate but feel its time to get something really substantial (so I dont completely wear his out) for continued use.
There is a huge difference in prices and opinions on what to use so Im hoping someone who (unfortunately) has gone through the same predicament.
Preferably after the large hinged variety so no lateral knee movement for windsurfing or SUP.
many thanks.
Larko.
"Scotts Performance" in the US are a supplier of motorbike parts and accessories. They are the manufactures of the "Scotts" steering damper but also have a retail shop. You will find them on google. I bought a pair a asterisk knee braces for when i ride my dirt bike. They are carbon fibre construction with a hinge on either side of your knee. You can also adjust the amount your knee can straighten out therefore stopping hyper-extension. They also have a patella cup which is removable if you wish.
At the time they were around $1200 a pair in Australia and i got them for $500 odd delivered, i can't remember the exact price, but it is AU dollar value dependent. They are brilliant to deal with and respond very quickly via e-mail to any questions you may have. Delivery takes less than a week.
Just go to your local bike shop and work out your size because you must get this right. I know this is a bit slack but the money you save is worth the guilt. That is unless the bike shop is prepared to come to the party on price.
i dug my brace out yesteday and damm it looks beat up.
yeah i think its time for a renno. I need all new straps and padding.
But I've seen them for $399 from the US. I paid $1000 fro mine here. It just depends how much a full renno is i remember a new strap kit was nearly $100.
I was going to sand all the crappy paint off mine and do a nice carbon overlay.
One of my mates in the UK just got a Donjoy brace. his knee is too rooted from surgery to try it out yet. But they are supposed to be pretty good too.
Doing a cleanout today I found my old brace.
Its a neoprene sleeve with straps but it has light metal plates with hinges on both sides. So you strap above and below the knee and the hinge provides the stability.
You're welcome to it if it fits.
Thanks Des, sounds like exactly what I borrowed off Rick. I bought one off eBay, works OK but need the lateral support you mention. I will PM you to arrange to get it off you, many thanks!!
Your a funny bugger Greeny!!!!!!!!!!
Let me guess, Broadbeach Surf Slalom Classi circa 89?????????
