I am off to Maui for a week of holiday in July. Has anyone been there and do you have any tips?

So far, I have arranged new (2010) board and sail hire through Naish - two sails and a board etc for $290/week. You can change the board and sails daily. I also have a big van to carry the stuff in. I am looking for accomodation options and things to do if the wind don't blow.

Cheers,

Dunno, but I put up a thread about Maui travel a few weeks ago and got no replies. I have managed to tag along with the Surf FX trip in a few weeks,. not sure if that's teh one that Dr GAs will be on or not.
I will be more than happy to share anything I learn on my return.

Hi JimmyT, I was over 1-14 May for the first time, we had 9 nights in Maui. You're gonna have a great time, I'm jealous
I rented gear from NP for a week $340 so you've done well there. I changed gear almost daily to suit conditions. We rented a Mini Van from Al West ie Maui Vans. $270 for the week plus two days at $43/day plus some taxes. Make sure you get a wet key with your hire. It will open but not start your vehicle etc
We stayed in West Maui so can't help with accomm options unless yiu want to stay at Aston Kaanapali beach villas which were great. Kaanapali beach is worth a visit
A house at Sprecks was mentioned in ka222's other Maui topic posted.
We had wind everyday but did the 'other things' in the mornings.
The Snorkelling is excellent at Honolua Bay in West Maui, we did a Whale watch out of Lahaina for $18pp!!. Saw a Humpback breaching and calf. . Lahaina is worth a visit anyway. Might be getting late for whales now but check.
Plenty of places to hire a sup and perfect condits around Lahaina in West Maui.
30min drive from Kahalui.. We drove to thro Kihei to Makena in South Maui where all the 6 star resorts are and also where turtle town beach is but they were all on vacation when we got there! Drive right to the end of the road thro the lava field. Pretty wild down there
We did half of the road to Hana. We didn't go up Haleakela but every one said its worth it. Save that for next time. Other advice TAKE A GOPRO HD or buy one. There's a shop there that has all the accessories also and its opposite the NP Maui store on the Hana Highway with a gopro flag
Here's my snorkelling video, have an amazing trip....
