I thought you did not sail cam sails ''not for me'' i think were your words.

Next you'll be telling us on heavy weather that you no longer buy the official fairytale.

I had some cams from a Gaastra formula sail a while ago, but I am not sure if I still have them. I am guessing that maybe they are similar to the MauiSails ones. Do you have a photo of what they look like?

If its any help, I think KA used exactly the same cams for their Koncepts, but no guarantees

Hi Mark

I had no luck finding the Gaastra x-cams, so I sent an email to Barry and Rick at Maui Sail and the sorted me out in no time

Windsurf shops usually have a box of spare cams, even ones of brands they don't sell. Take one of yours next time you go in and see if you can find a matching one, or contact Jesper at Sail Repair WA. He certainly has lots of KA ones, and probably other brands as well.

Yes, very funny. I don't want the sail and it is in the swap thread and the buynsell, but they are hard to sell when missing a cam. Duh

Thanks to those with real suggestions. Jesper has none in stock, I'm waiting on another shop and then may go straight to Mausails if no joy.

it shouldn't be hard to find a cam , i had a 5.0 ka concept rigged on a skinny with 3 cams ,the cam above the boom was a wide gaastra and the other two were the smallest n/p that fit a standard mast, have a look at some of the older pryde's they are numbered but are the same length

Hi Mark, I have plenty of spare Cams here but I guess without a picture it would be hard to work out which one. May be able to help you out.

Thanks for the offer Moondoggy - I don't have the sail with me cos it is in the nearest capital city to enable easy viewing. Grrr I am buggered either way hahaha
When I can I will examine a cam and let you all know.
Have a Tush race sail a few years older so might cannabilise that and see.

Mark, check with the importer Remi. I'm sure he has a stash of them.

OK will try Remi (was talking to him about something else and never thought to ask - duh Mark) but before I commit to buying new, here is the pic.

This is a Gaastra cam that was on the sail and is identical to the Maui Sails ones

Gaastra X-cam.... gap where batten goes in is 40mm wide..... rear edge (where batten seats) to the rollers is 43 - 45mm

anyone got one (I am stingey and the sail is for sale so I don't want to spend too much on it if I don't have to!)

Also - I was going to try a Tushingham cam from an old sail and it would not fit. so from the sail I have 4 tush cams and a few tube/rod battens if anyone needs anything. It was a 7m "Airforce" which about 10yrs old

Mark, that's a great shot of a cam and shows us its made of plastic and it has rollers (also of plastic)

How about a shot from the side so we can see what it should look like?

Well I dunno what all this stuff is I am a simple wavesailin man.

It is a triangle, it has Gaastra X-Cam written on it so anything Gaastra or Maui Sails from th last 5yrs would be bloody close???

The side is a rectangle.

I'm not sure about being clever mark but you don't have to be real smart to figure out most cams will fit, here's a bunch of cams ranging from the old red wildwinds to n/p and gaastra, you will notice the gaastra & smallest n/p are exactly the same length, but different cup size

Keef, what's the one with the white rollers? I took apart a Gaastra sail years ago, and when I got some Koncepts I noticed that the KA cams looked just like the Gaastra ones.

Is it a KA or Gaastra?

Ha, it really is an eX Cam

I don't have one like that.

If you take a measurement of the distance between the rollers, across the bit that fits the mast, the height of where the batten sits, and the gap where the batten sits, we can probably get something that will work for you.

Cup width - 48mm (inside)
Rollers - 20mm centre to centre
Height of slot that accepts batten - 40mm
Apex to front surface of rollers - 46-48mm hard to measure
