Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about mounting a GoPro camera to the top of my mast.
I want to get a POW looking down towards the board from the top of the sail.
Do I mount it using the 3M tape to the sail or do I need clamps, etc?

Thanks in advance.

+2 for the Flymount! Just make sure you get a Gopro tripod mount as well

Manfrotto Nano Clamp!

Why pi*s around with a piece of plastic when you can have solid pro photo gear clamps for less. I use both the Nano Clamp and Super clamps from Manfrotto to hold several thousand dollars worth photo kit in place.

Only problem I have had with these so far was then the camera mount that came with the goPro simply ripped out and the security strap that came with went as well. I am guessing the camera has now run of out battery as it drifts around at Gerroa main break.

ive got a flymount and a manfrotto super clamp. i cant bring myslef to mount the super clamp to my gear though as it weighs a ton. The flymount is much lighter and does the job its designed for. = nobrainer.

They are also currently testing a specific adaptor for the Gopro. Check out:www.flymount.com.au/2019/10/23/rd-testing-a-new-adaptor-for-attaching-the-gopro/

how do people attach their gopro's to a flymount at the moment? a picture would be great.

Considering getting a flymount but I think maybe the handlebar mount that you can get with the gopro would be just as good but cheaper.

The handlebar mount doesn't work on a mast, unless you have an adjustable head.

There are two ways:

I like mounting it on the baseplate arm (picture 2) as it seems to give better pictures and also makes it easier to adjust when you are on the water. I also use the velcro strap around the housing normally. You currently need the Gopro tripod mount, but if they release the new adaptor you will not.

Another method, similar to Rosobot, I don't know what's better your call. Because the tripod mount wasn't flat I did fit a flat stainless washer between (after photo) and also Loctighted the screw. I also use fishing trace (wire bit before the hook and no I don't fish I shoot the buggers) under the latch and around boom etc for insurance (thanks Choc).

I agree with Firiebob ref the direct mount (and he has done it correctly). I didn't have the standard mount fitting handy when I took the picture.

Glad you got it sorted Chironex.

For those going the GoPro option, you'll need the Tripod Mount Adapter to screw onto the Flymount (also handy for normal tripods!!!)
