Shortest sail Ive ever had.I rigged up & was about to beach start & saw this..I was SO tempted to go out for one run
but common sense got the better of me..
I suppose its had a good innings but has anyone got a boom end like this sitting around..It might be a Tyronsea one..? I have been told its a much wider angle than modern booms.
You dont need to buy a new boom. The mast end is rivited on. Just take it to your nearest shop and buy a new bolt on mast clamp end that fits. i find the Aeron ones really good
Is this the super-wide one that normal harness lines don't fit? If so, you may have to upgrade to 2010 style equipment!
I am pretty sure you can get replacement heads for those, as I have seen them somewhere. I just can't remember where.
Re spares..Thats promising..I must admit the part of me that doesn't think about the wallet went Yeehaa! when I saw the damage..I can finally get a a decent boom! Better research cheap options first
although if I do upgrade Ill have a boom long enough to fit my 6.2m sail! I wont have to work the boom down from the top over the batten ends & Ill be able to outhaul it properly!
A while ago when I was talking to one of the shops they said that you couldnt get a mast fitting that wide anymore..
I can't remember what brand it is but it does look familiar from long ago!
Yes they are a very wide angle, you would not get any modern head to fit
I replied to your other thread
I have two of those laying around in the garage, look very very similar.
Never really bothered trying them out thow
Edit; you can have them if you want, just pay freight.
i believe there 150-200. and blue grip instead of black. otherwise clamping system looks exactly the same
That's a pretty standard 90 Degree front end. Chinook, Hydrodynamix, and Sunshine all made those front ends. I reckon Paul Kelf on this site from Hydrodynamix could help you out. They often sell brand new, older stuff on ebay at really good prices.
But I say you should bite the bullet and do yourself a huge favour. You would notice a huge difference to your sailing with a more modern, narrower diameter boom. Your old one is about a 32mm. If you get a 28mm you will love how much easier it is to hang on to, and the massive reduction in fatigue. You will never look back.
Blokes with "man hands" get a huge benefit, which must be even greater for what I'm presuming your dainty hands must be.
I'm sure others will back this up.
Take it back to the shop where you bought and ask if they would swap it under warranty. The look on their face - priceless
i have one of that in fact what you need!! i kept it yrs. ago hoping one of these days i'd need it too bad your'e in Oz and the freight will be the same as a brand new boom
